To not buy birthday gift for DB?

DB has not bought me a birthday gift for 3/4 years now. The first year he was going through financial difficulties so I understood. The last couple of times he just hasn't. He now earns quite abit more than me and seems fine financially. I have always still bought him one.

It's coming up to a big birthday next month for him. He made a comment about getting an extra/bigger present to me as it's a big birthday. I was taken back and DH has just said I shouldn't get him a thing. AIBU to not buy him a gift at all? The comment has annoyed me tbh and I wish I had said something back.

I know you shouldn't give expecting something in return but I feel like he is taking mick.

I probably wouldn't get him anything at all, if he questions it I'd just say something like 'oh, I thought we weren't doing gifts anymore considering you've not got me one for the last 4 years'.

I would give him a present because he's my brother and it's his birthday. I would get him something I could afford.

However, if you don't want to get him a present, don't.

I would just text him and say ‘I thought we had stopped exchanging gifts?’ Then see what his response is.

I have had similar from SIL - issuing wish lists for her Xmas, while pleading poverIy.

My siblings & I stick to gifts for the dc, although we do big birthdays, but generally as a group gift.

Definitely don't him anything.

If questioned just say "oh I thought we didn't do presents, remind me again what you got me for my birthday".

Is he older or younger?

I brought my siblings nice gifts because I'm the oldest and was earning first/most. Had to sit them down when they were both earning more and tell them I was happy to exchange nicer gifts, or if they wanted to keep buying me a box of Heroes every year I'd need suggestions for stuff they'd like under a fiver! That did the trick 😂

Thanks all he is older than me.

I think I would have probably bought him something but this comment annoyed me. He was serious aswell it wasn't even a jokey comment.
