Caffeine intake pregnancy

Sorry if this sounds so silly. I accidentally drank over the recommended 200mg caffeine! Oops. I do have a coffee everyday and have been careful at checking. Would a one off increase risk?

No you'll be fine

GiddyRobin · 23/10/2024 14:29

No, it's a one off, it's not like you're chugging back Red Bull! I had a few normal teas a day here and there. Wasn't a fan of decaff. I remember drinking a mocktail and realising it had been mixed with an energy drink! Not the end of the world, don't worry.

I know it's nerve wracking!

Hasn't there been new research saying caffeine isn't an issue to worry about anymore? Anyway, they are only guidance notes - it isn't arsenic!

I'm sure I read something like that, but can't remember if it was that or breastfeeding. My lactation consultant told me to drink up my coffee so I didn't cut back when I was feeding! It'd be good if it was for pregnancy too, because if there's a time you need it, it's then!

Student midwife here - you have nothing to worry about :)

Hellskitchen24 · 23/10/2024 17:21

As a one off absolutely not.

Suzuki70 · 23/10/2024 17:24

I did one coffee or two teas a day in my pregnancy and everything was fine.

Devilsmommy · 23/10/2024 17:31

If it helps, I drink 25 to 30 tea and coffees a day. That didn't change with pregnancy. My little one was born healthy and happy and is now 2yo. No health problems 😊

averitablevampire · 23/10/2024 17:32

That's about four cups of coffee isn't it? Can't see any issues with that tbh.

I regularly enjoyed a Diet Coke while I was
pregnant and it did no harm
