Just getting into bed and as I went to shut the curtains I saw my neighbours over the road have got their Christmas lights up and on! Too soon or AIBU?!

Divali?

Souchong · 23/10/2024 02:21

Diwali even!

coxesorangepippin · 23/10/2024 02:37

Too soon!

Halloween isn't even out the way

Flatandhappy · 23/10/2024 02:47

I would assume they are celebrating Diwali.

MinnieMountain · 23/10/2024 06:21

The council workers were putting Christmas lights up yesterday. It’s way too soon.

Mermaidsarereal · 23/10/2024 07:18

A bit too soon for me but to each their own! I suppose if it takes them a while to get them up they might want to get plenty of time out of having them up 🤷‍♀️

It can take several weeks to put up and test lights across a whole borough. They have to start somewhere!

Thistimearound · 23/10/2024 07:25

Probably Divali.

But, also could just be fairy lights in a window as the evenings get darker? My DC have been putting our Christmas lights up in their rooms to play with and I have no objections. We certainly won’t be getting a tree until halfway through December and I am a traditionalist in most respects.. but twinkling lights when the evenings are so dark are so lovely.

Namerchangee · 23/10/2024 07:31

They’re not celebrating Diwali and they’re not fairy lights in a window/inside. They’re outside, on the house.

Hate this. Especially as we know now they are bad for bats. It takes away the excitement if all up months before.

Ok, and? Why does it bother you so much what anyone else does?

WhatASadLittleLifeJayne · 23/10/2024 07:41

I was surprised to see Halloween decorations up already on the school run yesterday 😅

WhatASadLittleLifeJayne · 23/10/2024 07:42

Absolutely love Xmas though so no complaints. We have fairy lights up year round (inside the house).

HarkALark · 23/10/2024 07:42

Doesn't bother me. The world is a shit pit, why yuck someone else's yum?

SilverPuffin · 23/10/2024 07:45

Meh, let people do what makes them happy if they’re not harming anyone else.

I did not know they were bad for bats! I have never had outdoor lights before but was seriously considering some this year as everything feels so miserable these days and I felt it would be a small act of good cheer.
But we get a lot of bats and I wouldn't want to do anything to harm them.

Coconutter24 · 23/10/2024 07:50

Not using them for Halloween decorations are they?

MinnieMountain · 23/10/2024 07:53

@TianasBayou they just do the main shopping area of the city centre. I’ve seen them go up many times. It doesn’t take weeks.

DinahSlade · 23/10/2024 07:53

Mind you, the hideous great 5G street lamp outside the front of our house must be bad enough for the bats already.

Littlejellyuk · 23/10/2024 07:54

I would have said either Diwali or testing Xmas lights like the other posters. something funny on a side note though, i remember being in the home bargains by me at the beginning of September and in the same aisle was a sale of summer stuff, Halloween decorations, and then Christmas ornaments being put out!!! 😆 🤣 😂 I said to the worker bloody hell 3 seasons in one day, youre messing?! And she burst out laughing and replied you don't know the half of it luv!

KnottedTwine · 23/10/2024 07:54

I went into The Range to buy a photo frame yesterday and there was Christmas music playing in the store. I mentioned it to the cashier and we had a good moan about it.

It doesn’t have to bother you, it’s not right outside your house. I just think it’s a shame. I observe the seasons and this to me just seems off. I don’t like it and I don’t have to.

And? What’s the issue - how has this impacted you? If it’s a light issue - shining into your eyes while you try to sleep maybe have a word them with them. Seems a grinch thing to get bothered about if it’s just because it’s ‘early’ - when my grandfather was about to die, we put the light and decorations up early - he loved Christmas. He died soon after - but before Christmas. This would have bothered you too. Maybe they have their own reasons.

Needmorelego · 23/10/2024 10:21

The clocks change next week so it will be nice to have some light in the darkness.

DappledThings · 23/10/2024 10:21

Any Christmas decorations or products in use or in shops will be banned before Advent when I'm the benevolent dictator you've all been waiting for.

And once they are up keeping them up until Twelfth Night will be compulsory.
