My husband doesn't exist with General Register Office!?

Hello! Posting in AIBU for hopefully some traffic.
I'm in desperate need for my Husband's Birth Certificate.
The certificate is there! But when it's ordered (fast track) it's rejected!!!!
All options have been filled.
I'm at a total loss at what to do? It's needed by Thursday/Friday . I'm so unbelievably frustrated.

Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated!

Have you spoken to GRO to see why this is happening? Is it a general IT problem or something just to do with your DH's records? If you know which county he was born in, you can go online and order a copy direct from that county if there is a problem with GRO.

Is he adopted? In which case you need an Adoption Certificate.

In our area you can pick them up from the office.

mateysmum · 22/10/2024 15:56

Do you mean the entry shows up on the GRO search but you can't put the order through?
As Iloveeverycat says, if you live near where his birth was registered you can probably go and get one from the registry office but do speak to the GRO first.

This is their contact info from Gov.uk. I've spoken to them in the past and they are pretty helpful.

As posters have said, you can just go to the local authority where he was born and request the certificate. I did this to get my long form certificate and it was both quicker and cheaper than the General Register Office.

Have you seen the Birth Index and got the GRO reference information? Or are you using the GRO search putting in names, date of birth, place of birth, etc. If the later there could be a spelling mistake or some other odd error compared to the index. What does the message say when it's rejected?

KimDianeCraig · 22/10/2024 16:42

@barnstone Hi, it sounds like an IT problem it's constantly rejected! He's definitely not adopted! Or the milkman's!

I order certs for family history all the time. Sometimes ordering them is like lipstick - less is more. If you put too much information in the boxes they may reject the order if it doesn’t mts h what they think they have in front of them. Use the gro site for the reference numbers and when you order only put in the name on the index, registration district, volume and page number.

@twomanyfrogsinabox it's an email rejecting the Charge because he's not on Thier records it did screenshot the message but it won't post?

I assume that means they haven't found a matching record. If you haven't got the GRO reference you could try searching on freebmd. You can play about with the input data until you hopefully find it.
