Pregnancy and food poisoning

I am 16 weeks pregnant and today at 4pmI did vomit for the first time. At 7pm diarrhoea and 5 min later vomiting with diarrhoea simultaneously in the middle of the street. Awful situation. I came home by 8 and again I had diarrhoea. Do you think I should go to emergency or not ? I am preoccupied for the baby and while I had midwives apportionment this Friday they canceled it today and postponed it for next week. It is my first pregnancy and I am not sure if I am exaggerating without a reason. Any advice ?

I had food poisoning in both pregnancies and it’s awful isn’t it plus the worry!

keep hydrated and if you don’t feel better in the morning can you call your midwife? I wouldn’t think you’d need to be seen urgently unless it doesn’t pass in 24 hours. Trust your instincts though

I would ring 111 for advice - I don’t have any medical knowledge to impart.

but I did want to reassure you if you are worried that I picked up terrible food poisoning in Egypt at 12 weeks pregnant - vomiting and diahorrea every 15 minutes for 12 hours - and my baby was absolutely fine! I didn’t think to ring 111 but when I told the registrar at my 16 week appointment he was totally unfazed and said the mother’s body does a really good job of protecting the baby.

Thanks so much for your comments it is reassuring. I will ring 111 and wait to see how I am tomorrow. I will try to call my midwife tomorrow thanks !

absolutely no need to go to emergency, they will just tell you to keep hydrated, easier said than done if you can't keep anything down, but for the vomiting some people find flat Pepsi or flat lemonade helps, don't have anything dairy as that'll definitely be seen again very soon. No milk, no cheese, no coffee. Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you . I have a bit of temperature now , 38 Celsius when measuring from the ear.
Someone from 111 will call me back .
