To think there's something wrong with me?

Went to the pharmacy recently to get nitrofurantoin for a suspected UTI. Antibiotics didn't work so worried I've got something else going on. I'm an anxious person so would appreciate some reassurance or for someone to make sense of these symptoms if they've also experienced them please. I've booked a doctors appointment anyway.

Symptoms:
Urinating a lot and often, it's like water just goes straight through me. Often I'll go then need to go again shortly after. I constantly have a very light feeling of needing to go to the toilet.
My urine smells extremely strong and sweet (not bad smelling) even when it's a pale yellow.
Urine is cloudy and has little white bits in it
I'm generally feeling weak, exhausted and fatigued
Thrush every 3-4 months
I'm very slim and can't seem to put on weight no matter what I eat. I have a low appetite though and only seem to have appetite for sugary food.

I took an at home urinalysis and there are nitrites and high levels of ketones in my urine but glucose levels are normal.

My mums said I could be diabetic. Surely not? I feel alright in day to day life other than being tired. I haven't got any pain.

Can anybody make sense of these symptoms for me to put my mind at ease a little?

I think it would be worth ruling out diabetes

Mylifeiswrecked · 20/10/2024 21:26

No one can answer this but you need to go to a GP.

Diabetes is a possibility but you can't ignore it. It's a serious condition.

Dolly567 · 20/10/2024 21:27

Diabetic symptoms type 1?

BabyCloud · 20/10/2024 21:28

See your GP.

BabyCloud · 20/10/2024 21:28

Have you been checked for an STI?

janeandmarysmum · 20/10/2024 21:29

When a relative presented to his GP with similar symptoms, he was sent to A&E and fast-tracked - type 1 diabetes.

LifeExperience · 20/10/2024 21:29

Please get checked for diabetes. You have all of the symptoms.

Emila · 20/10/2024 21:43

Oh shit really?
I kinda thought that was ruled out cause the urine test showed normal glucose. I'll bring it up to the doctor

Can you get someone to do a finger prick? I was very thirsty when i was diagnosed with T1. Are you?

Emila · 20/10/2024 21:48

Yeah very thirsty. I'm constantly refilling my water bottle. It's like it doesn't touch the sides

Typical symptoms for diabetes.

That sounds like type 1 diabetes. Sorry.

sproutsandparsnips · 20/10/2024 22:55

Yes agree diabetes needs ruling out. Could be any type though, just get checked.

Crispsandcola · 21/10/2024 01:25

When you see the doctor tell them what you've written here. I'm afraid it sounds exactly like diabetes.

paddyclampster · 01/11/2024 11:09

OP are you ok? Did you get seen to?

Emila · 03/11/2024 23:22

Sorry I haven't updated. They don't think I've got diabetes and said it's a UTI. Tried me on some other antibiotics but I've still got symptoms. Also just got thrush for the 2nd time since the start of September. Going back on Thursday.
Doubt it's an STI. We use condoms religiously and have been with my boyfriend for 3 years.

Bloody hell, what tests did they do? Did they do a finger prick? I suppose the antibiotics could cause thrush.
