When we sell the house and get divorced, can I reclaim a lump sum I paid off the mortgage or does everything get split exactly in half? Thanks!

You can’t reclaim a lump sump you paid of the mortgage because if you were married at the time then it’s not you having paid it off, it’s finances within the marriage which paid it off.

The house is a marital asset, any money that wasn’t legally ring fenced (like a deposit for example) that was all done properly via solicitors is different, but after that it’s a marital asset. Starting point is 50/50 but if kids, income variation etc involved then splitting it fairly does not always mean equally.
