What's reasonable for a a few doors to DB's day rate he's a carpenter and want him to have mates rates as I earn well in my own field and am doing a bungalow up to sell soon and he knows this he's done a really good job though he's been off recently for a bereavement as have I but my DB's self employed and I know it's been a struggle?

I think if you are doing up a bungalow to sell you should pay him his full day rate. You have to pay all the other contractors their proper rates, why would you not support your brother in the same way? Especially if you can/ have the budget to?

That's crazy. Ask him I what he can be paid for mates rates if that's what you want to offer him.

I wouldn't expect my brother to work for less on a project that I was doing to make money though.
