Pink Floyd so does it for me - what about you?

A bit of a light thread.

But asking if I'm being unreasonable by getting turned on by Pink Floyd 'shine on you crazy diamond'? does it for me every time DH only has to play it on the smart speaker & I'm putty. Wondering if others have favourites?

I know Roger W! And he’s so vile that it’s really hard to not be put off the music. Xx

BIossomtoes · 16/10/2024 17:22

Grantchester Meadows is on my funeral list. And Shine on You Crazy Diamond is on my exe’s - our son will forever associate The Floyd with crematoria.

Bananalanacake · 16/10/2024 17:47

There's a Sylvanian Families beaver called Roger Waters, must have been a pink Floyd fan.

You know him personally? Ooh I never normally care about celeb threads but I'm so nosy, can you tell us anything?

You could always stick to DSOTM I guess, at least it's not his singing Smile

AskNotForWhomTheBellCurves · 16/10/2024 18:07

Also I too love Shine On, but not in that way Grin

herecomesautumn · 16/10/2024 18:14

Anything that has Waters associated with it is tainted

BobbyBiscuits · 16/10/2024 18:16

I'm with you on the Ian Dury one. Lol.
But that fella from Pink Floyd who's a far right supporter really turns me off!

I agree Roger is so horrible but David Gilmour is such a lovely man!

It's not as though any of the back catalogue makes his attitudes much of a surprise though, is it?

Auburngal · 16/10/2024 18:23

Love David Gilmour and the late Richard Wright. Roger Waters gives me the creeps.

EBearhug · 16/10/2024 18:31

I went off PF when I realised I mostly played it when my mood was really low.

Ibloodylovetea · 17/10/2024 16:53

I must confess I've met loads of famous musicians as my late DH was a music promotor & tour manager. Daniel O'Donnell was probably the most hard working & fan-focussed person ever. A fan sent £20 for him to send a relative who was terminally ill some flowers. Daniel sent her the £20 back, but visited the relative in the hospice with flowers, CDs, held her hand & sang to her. He didn't need to go that far-he's a genuinely lovely man. Cliff Richard was undemanding & generally lovely & easy to work with. Unfortunately I wasn't allowed to meet my hero Mark Knopfler in the late 1980's - late DH said I was far too hot & didn't trust either of us LOL!

That song just makes me think of Syd Barrett and makes me sad. I don't have any songs like that, that I can think of.

I get that - I used to play it after late DH died & DS was in bed. I'd turn the lights out & indulge. But it helped me bring out the grief that I kept under wraps during the day while I was working & doing 'mummy' stuff.

I may have mentioned in PP that my late DH killed himself - I found him dead on the living room floor on Christmas morning. I was PG with my DS, but he didn't know at that stage. I'd had 6 miscarriages & was waiting to tell him as it was very early days. I so regret that I didn't tell him, but I wanted to protect him from another. Rather complicated, but he was adopted, I come from a large family. He used to say how envious he was that I knew where I came from & he could see similarities in my aunts, uncles & cousins - he used to refer to my family as a bevy of beautiful blondes. He would say that the only person who he would know looked like him would be his child(ren). Ironically DS is the image of me - God bless him. 😥

Bloody hell, op 💐😢

dotdotdotdash · 17/10/2024 17:29

Oh gosh, that's so sad OP. What a difficult time that must have been for you and you must still feel it.

I don't get turned on by Pink Floyd btw! Love Dark Side of the Moon though. There is a great documentary on Sky about how it was made. Alan Parsons, the producer, was a bit of a genius, and only 22 at the time apparently.

TiffanyIceberg · 17/10/2024 21:42

I love Great Orgasm (gig) in the Sky... makes me all tingly.

Roger Waters could start an argument with himself, your comment does not surprise me. Though I suspect he has got much worse with age in his case.

I however feel able to detach this from the work he co-created with others in Pink Floyd, and Wish You Were Here is my favourite album.

RaininSummer · 17/10/2024 22:01

I adore the music of Floyd and even if they were all horrible I would still love it.
