Repairs to property let to council

I own a house that I rented via the local council several years ago. Due to poor health & serious issues with difficult repairs team we gave notice. The council cannot move the tenant due to lack of housing. I have asked/suggested that it is unreasonable to expect me to deal with repairs when they are failing to return the property. The tenant installed is difficult & has caused considerable damage, & regularly creates repairs issues that I have to deal with and pay for. I feel it’s reasonable that the council should now take care of issues as they are out of the contract period & have failed to return the house. If someone knows a way of challenging the council I’d be grateful. TIA

What does your contract with them state? Have you spoken to Shelter to obtain free advice on your rights? The fact that there is no alternative housing is not your concern. The LA have a duty to provide accommodation if a tenant is served notice the same way if you were renting directly to the tenant.
