I've seen neither my ex nor his friend since he ended things 4 years ago. A mutual friend of us all recently told me the friend had been asking how I was and was I seeing anyone.

I don't know, but kind of has me thinking is he looking to feed info back to my ex.

The friend has been asking about you, not your ex? If this is the case, he may have always liked you and now feels enough time has passed that he could ask you out without his friend being annoyed.
