To ask about MOT NI/ Mainland UK?

Sorry - posting for traffic as I need to know by Monday!

I bought a car from a dealership in NI. In NI, a car doesn't have to be MOT'd until 4 years old. In the UK mainland, it's 3 years.

Does my 'new' car need MOTing now as 3.5 years old, but now registered at a UK mainland address, or does the original 4 years still stand?

I will obviously just book in for an MOT asap to solve it either way, but I need to make a journey on Monday, but can't if I'll be driving illegally. I can't get booked in anywhere before then.

The dealership don't know, the garages I've called don't know and I'm googling for info, but posting here in case someone actually knows!

IIRC you can legally drive your car directly to a MOT test centre when the MOT has expired, but should take proof of your test appointment with you in case you’re stopped by the police.

I have no idea about the 3 year/4 year issue, but I would imagine that if your car is now registered in the UK then the 3 year rule would apply.

Could u not look at the government website for tax and MOT, it should have the date due from MOT?

Are you driving via Belfast - Cairnryan? You can book an MOT at the Halfords in Stranraer quite easily.
