I feel very anxious. Early pregnancy, I’m 42 and scared of vomiting. Head is a mess with what ifs on both sides…. Anyone there to chat?

I'm here. Early pregnancy is quite daunting. I never vomited in three pregnancies, although I was nauseous. How far along are you?

Marcipex · 12/10/2024 23:40

Congratulations! How wonderful.
If you’re v afraid of vomiting and I know it’s far from pleasant, can you distract yourself?
A film, a new book?

JKDcot · 12/10/2024 23:40

I don’t know yet. Just tested positive today. How did you cope with the nausea that’s amazing you have 3!

Problem is the nausea just sucks. Last pregnancy I had it week 7-14 and I couldn’t relax, couldn’t watch telly, couldn’t sleep. Just felt so rough.

am trying already to do deep breathing and repeat to myself I’m Ok this will pass.

Some people swear by ginger biscuits and ginger ale but I swear by potatoes.

Casuallydresseddeepinconversation · 12/10/2024 23:42

I'm 39 pregnant with my 3rd with a 12 year old and 1 year old, living on my own with minimal support, it's tough but you get though it

whoopdeedoo · 12/10/2024 23:42

MS is not guaranteed - I had none at all during my 3 pgs..

whoopdeedoo · 12/10/2024 23:42

Congrats by the way!

JKDcot · 12/10/2024 23:43

If I had MS in my last pregnancy it’s pretty likely I will get it in this one though…?

OP posts:
Marcipex · 12/10/2024 23:44

And you know, it will pass.

margegunderson · 12/10/2024 23:45

If you vomit what's the worst that could happen? Sometimes it helps to think about that - and the worst is not so bad.
Also - while lots of women feel nauseous in the first trimester not everyone throws up. It's not a given.
Congratulations!

Pinkjellies · 12/10/2024 23:45

If it’s any consolation I didn’t vomit once in three pregnancies. Hope you’re the same. My brother has the phobia you have and I’d suggest hypnotherapy if you can x

JKDcot · 12/10/2024 23:46

Thank you guys. All true comments!

Just a thought- If you do start feeling queasy- make sure you're taking your folic acid (or pregnancare or whatever) WITH food, not on it's own. Also eating something- even just a slice of toast- helped me in the mornings

Marcipex · 12/10/2024 23:48

I had all-day sickness with one, which I did get fed up with.
I had a few minutes of mild nausea, twice, with the other.
So, no pattern at all.

JC03745 · 13/10/2024 00:00

Congrats on your pregnancy. If you had emetophobia in your previous pregnancy, what mental health support, counselling, CBT etc have had since then? How did you cope in the pregnancy? Have you mentioned this to your GP/midwife- if not, please do so? How far along are you?

Noseybookworm · 13/10/2024 00:02

Every pregnancy is different so you might be lucky this time and avoid MS! I would definitely try and eat something every 2-3 hours, toast or crackers if you can't stomach anything else. I went off tea and coffee but could manage sips of ice cold lemonade or watered down apple juice. Can you download Calm App on your phone? They have some really good guided meditations for both anxiety and sleep. Hope you can get some rest tonight 💐

Smileatthesmallthings · 13/10/2024 00:06

Congratulations!

I found apples, and ready salted crisps really helped keep my nausea at bay, and making sure I had a good solid breakfast. I wasn't sick at all but I know the nausea sucks.
