At a junction you should give way to pedestrians crossing or waiting to cross a road into which or from which you are turning.

I judged whether I could cross safely. Crossed in plenty of time. He beeps at me ... I regretfully flip a bird at him...

He honks repeatedly at me ... so I pause my run turn back (was going to continue) and ask what his problem is ...

Descends into a shouting match .. yes I should have swaned on but really bored of not being able to just be and not defer to middle aged men in big cars thinking they own "space" ...just so over it.

I find no one observes that new Highway Code rule. You were right but I don't expect anyone to observe it so you were taking your life in your hands.

Yeah just coz I have "priority" doesn't mean I'm walking out into a road if I can see a car waiting to turn in. Dead but right is not how I want to be.

I was very, very near to being mowed down by a woman ignoring this very rule the other day.

She was turning right into the junction I was crossing and in any case she couldn't go due to the oncoming traffic, but a car stopped to let her go and she just blindly aimed straight at me as I crossed!

I had to scurry out of her way but she wound the window down and hurled abuse at me about how she was "nearly stuck half way in the road!" because of me.

So much for me having priority to cross.

I think I was still ok on the old rule. I was in the junction before he crested the hill. He was just so entitled and red and angrey. I'mssaddend that has become a 'fun' feature of getting older ...the more I progress into middle age the more I get grief about being in shared spaces. I am mad at myself for letting this go and then also mad at myslef when I let rip. I have a good life so no big biggie really but it's happening more the older I get particulary when running (and for the record I try to be a very considerate runner .. I wear headphones but they are bone conducting and can hear a pin drop.. ) thanks for answering though .. mum of daughters and I tend to conflate everthing as potentially happening to them...

apolodgies for my poor spelling and typos ... @SpecialKate isn't so frustrating glad you were ok! .. it's not a driver or pedestrian battle it's just about respecting shared spaces and the fact that weird entitlement of the road and lack of mutual respect can lead to really serious consequences or just on a lesser scale ruin someone's day to save a second ...

Yea, that's exactly it. Respect.

It's a case of a second or 2 waiting for the pedestrian to safely cross. Regardless of the 'new' rule I would always check to see that there's no one going to be in my path when I turn into a road.

I mean, why wouldn't you just wait?!

He actually got out of his car and questioned where I was from and that he was 'local' ..as am I but have a foreign accent... all of this is actually enraging but I acted badly (really really rose to it :( ... ) but I guess what I needed to get off my chest is that I know in my heart is that .. he would not have honked angrily at me repeatedly or come back after I flipped the bird ... if I had not been a middle aged woman... I have been running the same route for best part of a decade only thing that has changed is my age and weight...
