It’s a shopping one!

Slightly lighthearted not the end of the world problem!

How do you feel if someone starts loading their shopping onto the belt before you’ve finished? I still had half a trolley of stuff and the lady behind me started loading up.

Bad manners I think. I was unreasonably annoyed but I am very menopausal.

That’s really pisses me off and I start loading the rest of my stuff with very big spaces between each item
Im petty as fuck

tediber · 12/10/2024 21:18

I've had to tell someone to stop as I've got a lot more to put up and wld run out of room. It's bloody so rude. Other times I've managed by stacking my shopping. I wld never do that and I don't understand why anyone would.

WillLiveLifeAgain · 12/10/2024 21:21

I was stuck in the middle as lady in front (who had put her bar on) was still going through and this woman behind was loading up. I didn’t have enough room. I wasn’t happy! She started taking the piss as she was with two others. I was able to keep my mouth shut but I was ready to roar.

One advantage of Covid was the distances .
I get really pissed off when someone starts unloading , especially when they can see I have things to unload.
I just say "I haven't done yet " , no bargaining , no apologies - they move their stuff back

I try to unload some and put my trolley behind me so theirs a physical barrier

WillLiveLifeAgain · 12/10/2024 21:30

I loved the space Covid allowed. So many people stand too close in queues. I am very introverted and hate the Saturday shop but don’t have much choice other than online but that doesn’t appeal either.

I hate this and do the same as another poster I put my trolley behind me to stop them unloading if I'm not done.
Another pet hate is when they stand right by the card machine with you I have snapped at them before and said do you mind stepping back unless your paying for my shopping some people are bloody rude for sure.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/10/2024 21:42

Urgh yes the ones who stand right by , I always ask them to move back . There's really no need for them to stand so near and certainly no excuse for them to be so close they compromise your security .
One time , two young men were behind me at the card reader , I asked them to step back , one said "I'm alright here " , he was trying to chat up the teller (young woman) and showing off .

I stood back and said to the man and the teller that I would do nothing till they moved right back , it was a stand-off till either they shifted , got a manager or (as I'm a stroppy sort ) I'd have walked and left the whole lot in the trolley (though I;d have had to take it out of my bags but I;d have done it to make my point )

TheRomanticOutlaw · 12/10/2024 21:42

Talked about exactly this with a friend yesterday. People who breathe down your neck & invade your personal space in the checkout queue, people who start putting their stuff out on the belt where YOUR stuff still needs to go, people who tut and huff because I can't pack quickly enough for them due to limb difference, people who completely ignore checkout person who is scanning AND packing their shopping cos they have their face in their phone then leave without even thanking them...they can all get to fuck.

We get a delivery now but I do get FOMO .
Went about three weeks ago but the IRL experience of a full shop is hellish . Had to use the self service as no tills open.

I'm fine to buy a basket full if something is missing from the online.
But when DH says "D'you want a delivery for this week" the words "No , I;ll go in" do not roll from my lips . Wink

EmoIsntDead · 12/10/2024 21:48

It’s happened to me a couple of times in my local supermarket. Both times it’s been older men. The last time I loudly said “excuse you, do you think you could wait until I’m finished?” He looked at me like I had three heads, I don’t think he expected it.

Differentstarts · 12/10/2024 21:51

Yanbu it really pisses me of and i always say something. Although to be fair a lot of times they just haven't realised or their in a bit of a daydream they've always said sorry I didn't see that lot.

WillLiveLifeAgain · 12/10/2024 21:57

It was a woman probably 60s and with what looked like her daughter and daughter’s partner (family day out - another pet hate). She was very clever and making fun but I managed to bite my tongue.

Worked at a supermarket with short conveyor belts. Sometimes customers have more shopping than what fits on the belt. When the customer packs the first bit of shopping in order to create space on the belt. Or sometimes if a customer is doing two loads of shopping (usually for elderly parent) some do put one lot of shopping to keep it separate to prevent confusion.

When another customer decides to put their shopping on the belt, I mention that there is still shopping left in trolley, the second customer sometimes gets stroppy. Why? It’s not my fault that a customer has got a big shop or two shops.

I liked the following customer finishing the unloading the serving customer’s shopping in order to put their shopping on the belt.

Itsmahoneybaloney · 12/10/2024 22:39

And this is why self scan is bloody fantastic! No pressure and no chatting.

Auburngal · 12/10/2024 22:49

From my experience the ones who hovered too close are elderly. When it was chip n pin days- i asked them to step back both as a customer and a retail worker.

During covid and social distancing times. Customers queued behind a taped line on the floor. Guessed which group was the worst for standing in front of line? The elderly. I remember one day the store manager asked this woman (mid 80s) to step back behind the line. She just put basket on the floor and walked off. WTF was going on with that woman?

This is why I absolutely love self-checkouts! I go when early when it is quiet and can walk straight to one and do it myself. It tends to be the same staff member manning the self-checkouts at the times I go and she's lovely. So needing help doesn't stress me, i.e. if the checkout starts beeping at me! There is space around me and no crowding.

I can't stand people standing too close in queues. It has to be done sometimes and I end up sweating profusely whilst my anxiety rises.
