Was this a bit...meh

Speaking to someone about work trip coming up. I say "I'll be over end of Oct". He says "Well let me know when you're over as I'm sure you would be letting me know""

True enough - I do tell people when visiting - but this is a contractor I worked with and finishing up a project with. Just felt a bit...rude. As if I'm a pest?! Saying that - he was in a mood by the sounds of it!

I'd honestly take that as a compliment

Sethera · 12/10/2024 19:26

I don't even understand it!

Ablondiebutagoody · 12/10/2024 19:29

It doesn't make sense

Glad it’s not just me

seedsandseeds · 12/10/2024 19:34

Huh?

KrisAkabusi · 12/10/2024 19:37

Did you mistype that? Also, what were you expecting? Excitement?

JMSA · 12/10/2024 19:38

Ok, I've read it a few times and I think I get it now.
Does he mean that you are overly chatty? Like 'no need for me to ask when you're coming, as I know you're going to tell me anyway.'
Have I understood correctly?!

Littletreefrog · 12/10/2024 19:41

Not sure I understand his response or what you think 'meh' means.

ihaveliterallynoidea · 12/10/2024 19:43

I'm clearly talking gibberish.

As in - if I hadn't told him today - he would "be sure I would tell him I would be coming over" (as in giving him a heads up nearer the time).

Can't explain it any better.

Yes this!!
I do talk - a lot. But I need to plan my trips and need to make sure people are there when I visit!

Everything is in the tone of voice. Maybe he finds you annoying and you talk too much or maybe he fancies you and thinks you'd tell him so that you can meet up when you're there.

Hmmm I'd go for annoying - he's a total grump

Maybe he just knows you will tell him.

as you said, you would tell him.

Is there a reason you are really over thinking this?

I just thought it came across as a bit rude - in a client/vendor type of way.

If you know you are a chatty Cathy over sharer then perhaps you should try to reign this side of you in, going forward. It sounds like he is annoyed by you.

But you said he's a contractor that's been working for you. So it is a client/vendor relationship. I'm not sure why you would expect anything else.
