Hi everyone! I posted several months ago under a different username, feeling completely exhausted and burnt out. I was in a job that I loved and desperately trying to hang on, despite a monstrous workload that kept growing. I was working evenings, weekends, 12hrs+ every day. I had tried everything I could think of to get my managers to listen to me. Nothing was working and I was ready to cry. I was being criticised for not managing to do an impossible amount of work. It added insult to injury that there were multiple coasters in our team, and I was being made to pick up their work too.

I saw someone use "plumbing" as their fake job last week so I'll use that too Grin I had too many houses to plumb, several toilets had exploded, and I was knee deep in shit. So I came begging to AIBU for a reality check (wiped my feet first, obviously). I was told in no uncertain terms to quit, that this was unsustainable, not to keep waiting for a change that clearly wasn't coming.

And I did! I got another job, and I marched out the door. My former managers were furious with me. All the exploding toilets are their problem now, and they lost their daft sap who was doing three people's jobs and keeping it all from being their problem. I'm in a new job which is busy but balanced, I love the work and people, and I have a life again. And that is the end of my short but happy story. Thank you all because without a good shake to counteract all the gaslighting, I'd probably still be there (or in hospital by now because it was making me ill). Thank you AIBU, you changed a life and you deserve to know - I hope some of the people who helped me happen to see this Flowers

I didn't see your original message but well done you. I was in a similar position a few years ago. Took me a couple of years to move employer but the difference it made to my life was like night and day.

Tittyfilarious · 12/10/2024 11:12

I didn't see your op but well done for getting out of that awful situation.

KezzaMucklowe · 12/10/2024 11:13

Ah, that's lovely congratulations on your new start.
A big fuck you to the arseholes who took advantage of you for too long

NeverEnoughPants · 12/10/2024 11:14

Love this!

I'm so happy that you are in a much better place now. Some of the vipers in this nest are really pretty decent.

I quite agree Kezza 😁And thank you, to you and everyone who has posted lovely replies. Mumsnet is the perfect antidote to gaslighting bullshit - I think the hive mind has seen it all before, and sees right through it.

So pleased for you

Congratulations

Great update! Sometimes when you're knee deep in effluent you just can't see a way out and you need other people to show you that you have the tools in your plumber's kit to do it. Well done!

NotPerfectButBetter · 12/10/2024 12:30

Thank you @RockyRogue1001, and especially if you were one of the kind souls who gave me support and tough love to get me out the door 💐

@BrioNotBiro, what a fab way to put it. I hope I can pay the help forward one day.

Good for you! (Glad you wiped your feet tho! Grin)

jay55 · 12/10/2024 15:34

Well done. Great to hear the new job is going well.

Iloveacurry · 12/10/2024 15:52

Congrats op

Thepeopleversuswork · 12/10/2024 15:56

Watching with envy. My job sounds a bit like yours. For reasons too boring to go into I can’t really quit for another several years. But it’s nice to know there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

skilpadde · 12/10/2024 16:26

Nice one! I love to see a positive update.
