GHDs vs Dyson straighteners

I currently have Dyson corrales... They cost £300 and I actually hate them!!! They're less than a year old. The battery don't last long enough, they pull my hair, they overheat...

I am soooo close to buying some GHF chronos. I had GHDs before. They lasted years. Loved them. Can't believe I didn't go for more once they died 😭😭

Should I buy some?! Need some enablers to help me. DH says put up and shut up... I find it hard to agree 🤣🤣

I think life is too short to be beholden to shit appliances that you use all the time. Regardless of how much they cost!

Sell the Dyson - it's coming Upto xmas now so you'll get something for them. And buy The GHDs !

My first GHDs, the original ones, lasted me ten years before final,y giving up the ghost 6 years ago. I did think about getting Cloud Nines but in the end I decided to stick with what I knew and got GHD Golds. I don’t regret my decision at all.

FatLarrysBanned · 12/10/2024 09:20

When my trusty GHD'S eventually died after about 20 years (me and my sister pitched in to buy a them between us when they first came out) I switched to Cloud Nine. Got £40 off for sending them my broken GHD's as well. Have found them just as good as the GHD's.

I am not at all sure Dyson didn’t develop a lemon with those straighteners. They are really chunky and imho only for people with lots of hair.

I don’t think you can beat GHD. My hairdresser told me to just go for the original gold ones. Ignore the more fancy ones.

The issue with Dyson is that they are often 2-3 times the prices of others so you feel you need to plod on with them. I have a Dyson hairdryer. Has lasted nearly 9 years and has had no issues whatsoever. No shredding of the cord or getting clogged up with dust and unless you look very carefully doesn’t look its age!

But - it was £££ and I probably won’t buy again (or maybe I would especially as Boots often give you circa £40 Advantage Points which you can spend on almost anything including things that already offered at a discount…)

I have both GHD and cloud 9s. Cloud 9s defo better, much quicker and more effective straightening.

imustbeanidiot · 12/10/2024 09:25

I just changed from Cloud Nine to the GHD Chronus and they are amazing.

I was hesitant also, but they are worth the money and live up to the hype

MichaelandKirk · 12/10/2024 09:27

I also have GHD cordless. Have had them for a number of years. They aren’t quite the same as the corded version. Good for say travelling and then touching it up when you reach your destination once the UK weather has messed it up.

Whenever I have gone into a restaurant bathroom a number of times I have been asked about them. Especially in the Far East of all places.

MrsPatrickDempsey · 12/10/2024 09:29

Really pleased with my GHD platinums.

Frozensnow · 12/10/2024 09:30

My GHDs just died and I got Cloud 9s- the Cloud 9s are a million times better!!

caramac04 · 12/10/2024 09:30

My hairdresser swears by Cloud 9. My hair is very short so I don’t use straighteners.

Barbiepink1 · 12/10/2024 09:32

GHD'S in my preferences

I do have a lot of hair, thick, wavy, and course. They're so straighten it but never with the same shine as GHDs would.

I did consider cloud 9s, they were all the rage back when GHDs came out.

Cloud Nine straigheners far superior to GHDs

MummytoAAandX · 12/10/2024 20:05

I love my Dyson hair dryer. I asked my husband to buy me some cloud 9s for my birthday. He thought he was being really generous and surprised me with the more expensive Dyson straighteners but like you I hate them. They are too clunky and pull my hair. I don't have the heart to tell my husband. He was so excited to give them to me

Ponoka7 · 12/10/2024 20:09

Completely different price point, but when my DD pinched my GHDs I got Remington shine, ceramic plate ones and liked them better.

Bellatrixpure · 12/10/2024 20:11

Cloud nines are the best. Absolutely love them compared to my GHDs. Straighten my hair in about a minute all over

Agree I had some Remingtons which lasted for years and were a fraction of the price

sadly when they finally gave up a few years ago I couldn’t fine any similar at all

TinaYouFatLard · 12/10/2024 20:14

I’ve had Dyson, GHD and Cloud Nine’s. C9’s are the best by far.

TeenLifeMum · 12/10/2024 20:15

Cloud 9s are basically ghds - a married couple made ghds then split and half kept the ghd brand patent and the other created cloud 9s.

jelly79 · 13/10/2024 07:46

I have always used GHDs but recently had my hair done with amory straighteners and they were amazing!!!
