Turning 40 Soon and Need a Glow-Up, Where do I start please?

Postinf here for traffic

Hi everyone,
I’ll be turning 40 in a couple of months, and after having my child, I feel like I’ve really let myself go. I’d love to have a bit of a glow-up, but I’m not sure where to start and could really use some advice.
I’m currently overweight, my skin is starting to show some wrinkles, and I’ve got a lot of grey hairs coming through. I don’t really have a style anymore—I just end up wearing baggy clothes most of the time. I also feel like I’m not an interesting person anymore, as I don’t have any hobbies or opportunities to travel as before (I’m a single mum).
I’d really love to find some new hobbies I could do while my child is sleeping or at school—preferably things that don’t cost much money. I’m also open to activities we could do together. I work full time, so I’m looking for ways to fit this all into my busy schedule.
Any tips on skincare, hair, weight loss, finding a style, or picking up new hobbies would be really appreciated! X

You are being unreasonable - It's too late for you girl!
You are NOT unreasonable - You still can have a glow up

I’m nearing 40 too and was thinking this morning that I feel a glow up coming on! One thing that I started in the past year which has hugely helped my ‘look’ and ‘confidence’ is sorting my skin out. It was full and very prone to break outs. I started using Skin and Me and holyshitballs it’s fab.. to the point where people actually compliment me on my great skin now! I never had that in my twenties or thirties. I’ll share a discount code where you can get your first box very cheap (I can’t remember how much £2.50ish) and (for transparency) I think I get a discount off my next box by sharing the code:

Online yoga class - can recommend a really lovely one it’s Monday nights 8-9. When I do this followed by a nice soak in the bath and a pamper it’s my favourite night of the week and I sleep like a baby! Do a weekly face mask, hairmask and tidy up your nails.

Get a walking pad so you walk at home when little one is asleep to get steps up. Walking is one of the best ways to lose weight.

Drink plenty of water. Buy a 500ml bottle and refill it 4 times a day. 1 bottle when you wake and 1 between each meal

Add protein to each meal, don’t have any carb only meals as it causes blood sugar spikes/dips that leads to cravings for carbs/sugar. Also we need more protein as we age. Eat plenty of fruit, veg, nuts, seeds, healthy fats, wholegrain carbs. Cut down on processed foods.

Consider going alcohol free for a period of time - massively helps sleep which helps the glow up!!

How about purchasing a National Trust pass for cheap days out at the weekend with your little one? They are interesting/educational, there‘s always loads of kids activities on at them and it’s great for accessing nature (huge mental health benefits) and an opportunity to get in some exercise for you both. Costs about £10 a month and you get free parking and entrance.

Skincare - keep it simple. Cerave is a great brand. Cleanser, serum (vitamin c in day time, retinol at night), moisturiser (with spf 50 for daytime).

Do what you enjoy whatever that is make an hour a day for it when little one is in bed - reading, tv, duolingo, puzzles etc!!

I’m almost 40 and have to get my roots done every 3-4 weeks now to avoid greys.

Go to the hair dressers, get a cut + colour
Go to the nail bar for a mani-pedi
Get a wax
Buy some fake tan
Invest in skin care
Get some teeth whitener
Join Noom
Walk minimum 30 mins every day
Drink more water
Increase fruit + veg
Buy a fabulous outfit to celebrate your birthday

Teeth whitening is another recommendation of mine. Without going too white of course or it looks very false. But lightening them a couple of shades and removing any staining makes the world of difference.

I joined a gym and do 3 classes a week. A mix of HIIT and spin. I’m slowly noticing a difference, but it’s hard work and I’m aching most days because of it!

I misread that as you're coming up 40 and need to grow up 😳

Intermittent fasting, buy a kettlebell for YouTube vids do that 5 days (combo of kettlebells and HIIT), treat yourself at the weekend. The exercise and weight loss will do your whole appearance the world of good. Use a smart watch to measure steps, record workouts etc...see that progress...
Also the no alcohol thing is a good shout, but I have it here and there...but I am on the road to abstinence as ultimately any fun is dwarfed by the impact (see your sleep for one on said smart watch).

Baby Botox
Teeth whitening
Retinol (I swear by A313; you can buy it on Amazon)
Good haircut and colour
Brow/lash tint
New capsule wardrobe
Mani/Pedi

I’ve heard intermittent fasting is very good
