To complain about this

A woman came to service my boiler as I have it done annually and she said she had fleas jumping on her and was so rude. She’s completely wrong as my dog is regularly checked and flea treated at the vets, as is the house and I use flea spray as a precaution. She was rude and said she was going to note it down at the office that the house has fleas. I feel offended and want to complain

That’s a really weird thing for someone to make up for no reason op. Are you sure there couldn’t have possibly been a stray flea or two? She must have seen something. I can imagine it was as unpleasant for her to have to mention it, as it was for you to hear it

She said she has a puppy so I don’t know how she doesn’t know they’re not from her dog or the house before

I would complain. Surely you would have bites if you have that many fleas in your home.

Serene135 · 09/10/2024 18:08

That is a really odd thing for someone to make up and an extremely awkward thing for someone to announce. Maybe she saw something that you didn’t? Might be worth just double checking OP and maybe defleaing the house just in case. If there is a stray flea or two it is easily sorted 🌺

thursdaymurderclub · 09/10/2024 18:08

then complain!!

who is she going to 'make a note' with?

Chillisintheair · 09/10/2024 18:12

Odd to use flea spray as well as prevention.

I’ve always used prevention prescribed from the vet and my cat has never had fleas. But the treatment is usually given at home not at the vets. It wouldn’t occur to me to treat the house for some thing which isn’t there.

Have you had fleas in the past? Apparently putting the heating on can awaken dormant eggs in the carpet but I have no idea if this true.

Danioyellow · 09/10/2024 18:12

Honestly though, who are the company going to believe if you do complain? As unfair as it may be if your house genuinely doesn’t have fleas, it is 100% going to look like you’re a disgruntled customer who is complaining as they’ve been embarrassed. If they confront her on it she’s obviously going to insist there were fleas, as it’s a pretty batshit thing to state if it wasn’t true. And the only way they’re going to prove she was lying is to come round your house to look for the fleas themselves! I get your upset but I’m not sure where you’re expecting this complaint to lead

RunFreeLiveHappy · 09/10/2024 18:15

I would phone and let the company know you felt uncomfortable and that she came across rude. Explain you believe your house has no fleas. This woman may have some emerging mental health difficulties or other anxieties, or there may be a pattern of rudeness with respect to other customers. The company probably want to know of a pattern is emerging or there is cause to be concerned about this employee.

If you do have fleas in the house, you'll find out soon enough! But feels like you'd have known by now of you did!

Pancakeflipper · 09/10/2024 18:18

Fleas jumping on her?
That's some investation.

Have you checked your animals and checked there's nothing round the boiler area?

Exactly. You sound overly concerned about fleas anyway before this visit. It's a really weird thing for her to announce and to say she's going to note down. Who with? Presumably she was clothed and they weren't biting through her clothes. Bizarre

I use the spray after he has been at the vets because my old dog who has now sadly passed once brought them home from the vets. My dog is still a puppy too so I do get it done with the flea prescription

No one in the house has had any bites. I’ve checked my dog and found absolutely nothing. Even looked in the area she said and all around and found nothing at all. She said she’s noting it down at the office on our file. She didn’t say she was bit, just that they were seen jumping on her paper work which I find strange

Btw, this was a very long time ago that my old dog brought back the vets and in my old house, not this house. But I just do it as a precaution

Not necessarily! A few years back my cat came home covered in fleas. Out of a household of 5 people, I was the only one bitten to shreds! The rest of the household were untouched.
