first of all I’m not a criminal nor do I plan on ever going to prison! but last night I had a dream that four police officers turned up to arrest me, in real life I’m severely claustrophobic to the point I physically can’t shut the bedroom/bathroom door or go in lifts ever. in my dream they wanted me to go in the back of the van I kept telling them I physically can’t and I would have a panic attack in my dream they said they don’t care and to stop wasting there time. say in real life this situation happened would they react the same or would they use a car instead of the back of a van. this is probably the strangest dream in my life considering one of the officers told me if I smell really bad they have to come back another day so I was begging everyone in the house to say I smell awful ( dreams are SO strange )

They'd just put you in the back of the van if it was the only vehicle available in the area.

PaperGloves · 09/10/2024 08:10

Most times someone who’s just been arrested will be put in the back seat of a police car. Are you confusing that with those vans for transporting those on remand to court with little individual compartments?

this is the one from the dream yes! like the little back part that you see on tv shows with the bench

I’m guessing if you were being arrested they wouldn’t really care if you had a panic attack or not. But the people being arrested I’ve seen have gone into the back seat of a car…

newnamethanks · 09/10/2024 08:28

Time to watch different tv.

OK, but does it help to recognise that this is a mistake in your dream? That if you were arrested, you’d be put in the back seat of a police car, not in a van? (Unless it was a riot or something and they were making mass arrests?)

arthar · 09/10/2024 08:34

It's unlikely if the police were arresting you in real life that they would make accommodations and change their van for a car, because short of carrying a diagnosis letter with you, how do you prove it and get them to listen? Most criminals when being arrested will say anything - I can't imagine 'I'm claustrophobic' is going to be taken seriously

Realistically though, are you likely to get arrested?

Namechangetotalkaboutmysleepingpillsproblem · 09/10/2024 08:34

Well, in this situation the police don't care. They keep people in cells 24-7 for three days regularly. I've been kept in a cell during a psychotic break and I thought they had imprisoned me to murder me. I told them I was hearing voices, and they didn't take me to hospital. And it was all over missing court over something I was found not guilty for

Namechangetotalkaboutmysleepingpillsproblem · 09/10/2024 08:35

They were laughing at me, too

No. Majority of people go in the back of a van as it has a lockable cage and CCTV.
Only extremely compliant and "low risk" assessed suspects would be put in the back of a car, which is rare.

wanttogetadvice · 09/10/2024 08:43

Gosh people you are not making it easy for the OP.

OP, just don't commit a crime and stay away from police. Why are you having these kind of weird dreams? What did you watch recently? More over, what did you eat the last night? In my experience stomach problems tend to give very scary and weird dreams.

"That if you were arrested, you’d be put in the back seat of a police car, not in a van? (Unless it was a riot or something and they were making mass arrests?)"

What utter nonsense 🤣

I’m so sorry that’s happened to you.

I think the dream is telling you that you are a 'prisoner' due to the claustrophobia.

Thank you. It was very traumatic

StasisMom · 09/10/2024 08:56

I don't think dreams generally foretell the future, but I have anxiety dreams so would suggest it's that?

Namechangetotalkaboutmysleepingpillsproblem · 09/10/2024 08:57

I think worse though even was hearing the boy in the cell across from me screaming and smashing his head against the wall. People... animals, shouldn't be treated like that

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 09/10/2024 08:59

Police here use 'meat wagons'. Very definitely vans. They also use cars.

What is the point of this thread?
Dream analysis?
A treatise on police transport methods?

GoldyHorn · 09/10/2024 09:08

I watch American Court Tv and almost everyone who gets arrested says they have claustrophobia or a bad back. Even when they have just murdered their own child they still say they can't get in because of their back problems.

The officers just insist. People are cuffed at this stage and it's all very calm.

I’ve seen on TV several (U.K.) police officers manhandling a very aggressively resistant bloke into one of those vans. So that’s presumably what would happen.

I think the point was OP wanted to know would the police put someone with claustrophobia in an enclosed space (police van in this question)

Absolutely this.

Your subconscious is telling you that you need help to overcome this psychological problem which is keeping you a prisoner of your own mind.
