How do you fit in play dates when you're working full time

How do you do it? My 7 yo ds has never been on a play date, except with his similar aged cousin & we've never asked anyone for a play date. By the time I've finished work & fetched him from his GP at 6pm its time for tea, wind down & bed. One evening in the week he has swimming lesson then football on a Saturday morning. I don't even know who his friends parents are. He's an only child too. I feel like he's missing out on so much. He is a very happy & confident boy though. Teacher says he's very popular. When we're out in town he sees children from his school they always shout hello to him first. Is he missing out do you think?

Weekends - it's your only option although sometimes I'd have taken a few hours off work at the end of the day & picked up child & their friend from school & hosted a playdate then for a couple of hours.

I have been known to collect my 7yo DD and a friend from school while WFH, given both a snack, and then let them loose while I carry on working.
