Anxiety re job

I’m not sure if this belongs in AIBU but….

I work in the NHS. I’m in a non-clinical role, working in operational services. I’ve been there since 2005.

Our organisation is currently undertaking a corporate services review where lots of staff have been put at risk and departments being restructured. Whilst I’m not in this review, there is an operational one coming.

Day after day I hear leaked information and the more I hear the more anxious I am getting about things.

We currently have a recruitment freeze for all non clinical roles. However, given the amount of staff affected by the current review, frozen posts will be ringfenced for these staff.

Given we are going 2nd, I’m very concerned that all the vacancies and new posts that have been created will be mopped up by those in the first review.

I don’t want to stick my head above the parapet, but I’m not sure if this is fair given we are likely to have roles cut too. Everyday I feel anxious and I already know I wont get a role if I’m up against the staff so think I am.

Anybody been in this situation before? I’ve started to look for other roles but my confidence is shot to pieces after being overlooked constantly within the organisation.

I'm not sure what your aibu is? I mean it sounds pretty awful and I'd recommend looking for other jobs. You seem very anxious so maybe applying for jobs outside your current trust may give you back a sense of control?

OP are you a member of a union? I think they would agree with you that the ring fencing seems unfair as there will be less opportunities remaining for the second phase. This is exactly what staffside are for, they are supposed to represent staff in these situations.

P.s. you have my sympathy, it is very tough in the nhs at the moment

I totally sympathise; I'm in a clinical role part time; we're going through a consultation process. Horrible.

Yes I am, but the reps are in the consultation themselves so I feel raising anything about this at the moment feels a little insensitive.

I’m sorry you’re going through it too. It’s not a nice place to be working at the moment.
