If they asked you to come in on your day off but they only sent the text less than an hour before they wanted me in. This happened on Friday and I couldn’t make it in and they seem annoyed at me now

Yes I would be annoyed. You could have gone out for the day.

TwattyMcFuckFace · 07/10/2024 11:54

No it wouldn't annoy me that they sent it.

Yes it would annoy me if they seemed annoyed that I couldn't come in.

librathroughandthrough · 07/10/2024 11:57

Nope I wouldn’t be annoyed. I would be confused as to why they may be and ask if there was an issue.

ilovesooty · 07/10/2024 11:59

I'd be a bit annoyed at being asked at such short notice but I'd be more annoyed if they were off with me about not being able to accommodate the request.

TeamPlaying · 07/10/2024 12:01

I wouldn’t be annoyed that they’d asked, even with short notice, emergencies happen.

I’d be very pissed off if there was any suggestion that I should/had to/they were annoyed that I didn’t.

BillStickersWillBeProsocuted · 07/10/2024 12:03

Them asking is fine - IMO even last minute.

Getting annoyed at you for not being able to say yes is unreasonable though - they can't expect you to be just sitting at home waiting for their call when ever you are off!

they "seem annoyed" - what does that mean?
They are annoyed they were left short handed because someone called in sick? - fair enough
They are annoyed that you didn't come in at stupidly short notice? absolutely unreasonable.

don't apologise for not coming in, if you can't you can't. They have to accept it.

If they think you are unreasonable not to come in then they are grown ups and can tell you that.

But (and I say this as a people pleaser who monitors everyone's emotions for them being mad at me) it may just be that your boss or whoever is in a bad mood for some other reason completely unrelated to you so I'd just be sure of that before you expend energy on this one.
