Christmas has started already!

Went into sainsbury and was greeted with a message about the convenience of them doing my Christmas shopping in advance so ‘I could make the most of the big day’. They can fuck off. Outside is a garden centre which has a board saying they have Christmas trees in stock. Double fuck off.

i hate Christmas

REAL Christmas trees, not artificial? WHO buys one in early October? Won't they die?

tuvamoodyson · 05/10/2024 11:33

I don’t…

Changingusernameasalways · 05/10/2024 11:33

It started at the end of August as it always does. This is quite frankly late!

ouch321 · 05/10/2024 11:33

It's October so not surprising, in July it would be odd.

ZaraSpellman · 05/10/2024 11:34

Yes cos this is new, it happens every year…

Beezknees · 05/10/2024 11:36

It's the same every year, it's nothing new.

SocksAndTheCity · 05/10/2024 11:36

Good for you. You know that not everybody has the money to just buy everything in one go in December?

Needmorelego · 05/10/2024 11:36

I popped out to the supermarket at about half 6 last night and it was getting dark.
I hate dark winter nights. In the shop I started looking at the few Christmas things they had out (not much as there's Halloween and Diwali stuff out). A few things I thought "that's nice".
When I got home I started looking online at what new tree decorations etc are out this year.
I like to make my home colourful, cosy and pretty
I often think if Christmas didn't exist I would just hibernate from October to February.
So Bah Humbug to you (lighthearted 🙂).

I still remember returning from honeymoon 34 years ago and going to collect our car from the airport hotel we’d left it at and seeing a Christmas tree up in the foyer. We got married mid September and had been away a week.

Sunbird24 · 05/10/2024 11:38

I saw my first Christmas tree advert in July, and have one friend who actually put their tree up on 30 Sep. I’d be bored with seeing mine after two weeks, but it makes her happy…

Childfreecatlady · 05/10/2024 17:22

Completely agree with you. Don't talk about Christmas till December, or better yet, just fuck off with all of it, it's a stupid holiday.

Goxhound · 05/10/2024 17:25

to me it should be halloween only then after Halloween its christmas advertising

grafittiartist · 05/10/2024 17:29

Drives me bananas.
But then I'm not a Christmas fan either.

I just think that there are so many other nice things that get overshadowed Christmas. Can't just enjoy autumn.

If you have the money now, you can have the money in December, by not spending it now. It's not an argument for shops to be marketing a festival over 11 weeks away.

You may be conveniently forgetting that some things do sell out…

I have already bought Advent Calendars for 3 young Gdcs - relatively small, just little-pictures ones, because I needed to find 3 all the same size, and equally appealing - but different.

GreenWheat · 05/10/2024 17:45

You don't like shops selling Christmas stuff in October. I don't like people moaning about Christmas in October. Haven't you got Halloween and Bonfire Night to gripe about first?

ChocolateCroissantCafe · 05/10/2024 17:59

I like getting some things organised in advance, we're busy seeing family, school carol concert and whatnot once November and December roll round. Not to mention lots of the snacks are really to enjoy throughout the season, it's not just for one day. You can just pass by if you're not interested though?

I mean, I don't go on summer AI holidays or cruises but they always start advertising them heavily around Christmas. That's fine though, some people do want to see those and look forward to them, it doesn't negatively impact me.
