When people make comments about wedding bells!

An old school friend and I were exchanging messages and I mentioned me and my partner were going on a long awaited trip to Japan soon, very exciting. For context we've been together for six years, very content and not engaged.

Her first response, not to ask anything about the trip but to comment:

'Wow I hear wedding bells, I'll buy my hat'

Haven't replied yet. But I just find it really inappropriate to make assumptions and really cringey. Just makes me roll my eyes.

She also made a similar comment at her wedding. Me and partner wished her goodbye at the end of the night and she said 'oooh you'll be next!' which was just factually untrue as there were 3 other engaged couples in the room 🤣

YABU - She's just being nice and is happy for you
YANBU - It would wind me up too and is really inappropriate!

God I absolutely loathe this. Intrusive and desperately unimaginative, as if assumes everyone wants to get married. She sounds a total bore.

I would be much more interested in your trip!

It wouldn’t bother me but why don’t you just say in passing you aren’t interested in getting married any time soon.

I'd have texted back, 'Odd comment?' and a puzzled face. It's a dumb thing to say in response to anyone telling you they are off to Japan. It would have irritated me. It's as though 'wedding' is the be all and end all.

It's like when wedding guests say..
Oh will we hear the sound of tiny feet soon..
So annoying.

She loves the fact she’s married and you’re not and instead of being jealous of an amazing trip to Japan she’s pressing her own “I feel superior!” button.

Very annoying.
