Is this hand foot & mouth?

DD (3) has come home from nursery with a rash under her armpit, on her chest and her leg (see photo), it's red dots and they don't fade with a glass tumbler. She's already had chicken pox, so it can't be that. I'm wondering if this looks like hand foot and mouth? Im going to obviously get her seen by a GP but I'm just anxious in the meantime for some reassurance because the rash doesn't fade when pressed etc.

Hi OP. I’m no doctor but this is what DD’s hand foot and mouth rash looked like - started on her legs but then spread to her face and hands . Sometimes it can start in weird places

id obviously get her checked just to confirm, but it could well be hand foot and mouth

Spongebobcircletop · 03/10/2024 17:59

Does she have any blisters on her fingers toes or around the mouth? When mine have had hand foot and mouth they have had blister spots in one of these places.

Thanks for your replies. No spots around hands feet or mouth, but I'd (perhaps wrongly) assumed that they didn't need to be present for it to be HFM - maybe I'm wrong about that. DH has just taken her to the doctors, we managed to get her an appointment this evening to be seen. The worry was that it doesn't fade with a glass 😢

My daughter’s chicken pox started under her armpits, they’re rife atm in my area.

Haroldwilson · 03/10/2024 18:05

Does she have other symptoms? There are a gazillion reasons why kids can get rashes. I wouldn't jump to meningitis if she's otherwise well in herself.

whatisthisrashplease · 03/10/2024 18:05

@McGregor33
She's had chicken pox already

@Haroldwilson
No other symptoms, she's otherwise well. She's eating and drinking fine, been playing fine at nursery etc. She was scratching a bit at the spots in the shower, and getting herself a bit upset with it, but otherwise ok

My kid was one of the unlucky ones who had it twice. Confirmed by doctors.

@Wonderwom

Just had a call from DH - that's exactly what the GP has just said. definitely not HFM or meningitis, he thinks she's got chicken pox a second time 😫

If it helps, second time round was a breeze compared to the first.

LostittoBostik · 03/10/2024 18:35

Did she have it before 1 the first time? Apparently if they have it under 1 they're much more likely to have it done again

whatisthisrashplease · 03/10/2024 18:41

@LostittoBostik
No she had it earlier this year just before turning 3, so only 6 months ago!
