Preparing tonights veg b4 I pick kids up from school. I have a long school run and wont be home until 5.30 so I like it to all be ready to go when I get in
I was cutting up brocolli ... and this appeared😮😮😮 what is it?
Will the brocolli be safe to eat once steamed? I'm really fussy and it really has put me off if I'm honest.
I have a video of it wiggling around but it wont allow me to upload it , freaking out

Just a bug 🤷‍♀️
Rinse the brocolli off before cooking

Looks like larvae of some kind. Can you dispose of it outside, wash the broccoli and eat as usual.

Xiaoxiong · 30/09/2024 15:13

It's just a little caterpillar - means your brocc's nice and fresh (and possibly organic!)

The veg will be fine, just give it a rinse!

heldinadream · 30/09/2024 15:14

Oh goodness OP broccoli grow in the ground and it's really common to find caterpillars, bugs, flies etc on them, just rinse it off and forget about it. I promise you every single vegetable and fruit you've ever eaten has had such things on them at some point. It's totally safe.

just a larvae. Frankly probably tastes better than the broccoli (which I say as a veg lover, just a hater of nearly all leafy broccoli family), so chuck the broc and eat the bug.

Laylastarsea · 30/09/2024 15:18

Ok great thanks for your replies. I understand fresh fruit and veg get bugs , I was just worried it may be something dangerous to the kids I guess..😂 I'm a wimp with stuff like this.
Ah yeh it is organic from local veg stall so all good, guess it's a good thing .... phew!

Ewww I have had this a few times and the first time it completely freaked me out. I have now learnt to thoroughly wash the broccoli and not think about it. And oh my gosh what a long school run you have!
