To think rude or am I being precious?

Went out in a group of 5 (1 I’ve not met and another 2 I’ve met a handful of times and the other 2 I’m good friends with)

We are at a sports game, lots of breaks. I’m sat on the end of the aisle, good friend sat next to me but she smokes so was leaving each break, the other three were asking the man in front of them to take photos of just the 3 of them, had their back fully turned towards me, laughing and joking.

I just felt like I’m idiot sat on the end with no one to talk to.

Breaks were 3 times for 20 minutes each time. So maybe not long but 20 minutes seems long when you are sat doing nothing.

I would feel exactly the same as you. I expect lots will say you should have moved into your friend’s seat and joined in.

It just felt a bit awkward doing that because the person sat there had a full 90 degree back turn.

Yes it's rude. Someone did this to me at a meal once and I've never forgotten it.

Why didn’t you go out with friend who smokes?

I agree that's very selfish and inconsiderate behaviour. My instinct would be to go out of my way to include the other person and make sure they were part of the group, sounds like you were treated poorly there OP.

You say you knew two of the group well, so one of those must have stayed while the other went out to smoke — could you not have moved in and engaged?
