To be sick of propaganda on MN

Apolitia · 28/09/2024 19:48

Recently there seems to have been an outbreak of fairly overt political propagandising on MN. Scenarios and views presented as ‘just what I think’ which I strongly suspect are not from your average MN punter.

This, and the weird AI/ reddit-type dilemmas (me 31M, 33F blaaah, aargh) that frequently pop up are putting me right off. And I’ve been here for more than a decade.

Mayve I’m just old and grumpy and it’s a sign to put down my phone and talk to actual people :/

What kind of propaganda?

Alltheunreadbooks · 28/09/2024 20:28

It's not that Keir Starmer should be immune to criticism, but the obvious Tory propaganda bots spamming this site...and being allowed to spam it...are getting boring.

Starmer will never be as cruel, incompetent and corrupt as the last 3 Prime Ministers before him , no matter how many melodramatic threads get started on here.

notprincehamlet · 28/09/2024 20:43

All politicians are cut from the same self-serving cloth and a change of government is just a case of same trough, different snouts - but I do think it's adorable that toryhq think they can undermine Labour by spamming MN with its Keir Starmer ate my hamster threads 😂

It’s really lowered the tone

Report their posts and get them moved to Politics

What kind of propaganda?

Just things that to me do not appear to be written by casual commentators and feel disingenuous.

Many of the ones I’m thinking of right now seem focused on rehabilitating the conservatives of yore “Boris seems good in comparison!”.

To me, they lack nuance and are pretty unsophisticated attempts, which annoys me more than the actual arguments 😂.

Told you I was grumpy.

The ones trying to scaremonger people that Labour want to take away x,y and z are doing my head in. So much mis and disinformation that will worry people unnecessarily.

evensonginautumn · 28/09/2024 21:02

I am a die hard labour supporter but it’s really naive to think that todays news isn’t going to be discussed in some depth. The idea that only anti Tory posts should be permitted is … peculiar.

FifiFalafel · 28/09/2024 21:03

I suppose it's inevitable that it would happen. The Daily Mail is going bananas with the anti Keir thing.....they were saying he's going to tax tap water yesterday.

Pretty hilarious coming from the same type of people who have spent the last 8 years calling people remoaners.

gamerchick · 28/09/2024 21:08

I don't mind the sex and age thing. Much better than they and them hiding the sex crap.

This.

And all the bollocks about 'Do you regret voting Labour'...'Ooh - Labour have been in for 3 weeks and already everyone hates them, 'OMG, whole country is rioting and it is all Labour's fault'.

It's pathetic. 14 fucking years of Tory shite and within 5 minutes there are all sorts of wide eyed 'Mums' pretending they are innocent posters trying to convince others that Labour is a HUGE mistake.

The worst is the trotting out that every old age pensioner is now going to be dying of the cold thanks to wicked Keir Starmer and his evil plans. It is so tedious, as well as insulting to most intelligent women.

Clearly the Tories think 'wimmin' are all a bit dim and might swallow this shit cos of course we need other people to tell us what to think.

Apolitia · 28/09/2024 21:52

@Hatty65 yes. This is it absolutely. You’ve articulated it much better than I did. It’s so patronising- it is insulting to anyone regardless of sex or social background. No-one likes being played.

There is almost no chance in our lifetime of there ever being a Prime Minister as bad as Boris Johnson. The second worst arguably was over 200 years ago, or perhaps Antony Eden in 1957. Neither of them killed over 20,000 people by neglect, proposed a military invasion of the Netherlands, and they could both acknowledge all their own children.

FifiFalafel · 29/09/2024 09:39

'OMG, whole country is rioting and it is all Labour's fault'.

The rapid and effective response to the rioting was something I can't recall ever seeing before and turned the disorder straight off.

I cannot imagine that the Tories we've suffered this last 14 years would have nailed it like that.

MermaidEyes · 29/09/2024 10:39

It's not just the politics threads, it's the WW3 threads too. Every one of them seems to be started by a 'newbie' and they're all 'absolutely terrified'. Either MN is full of anxiety ridden peeps or someone else has an agenda.
(There's literally another one just popped up on active this morning 🙄)

Apolitia · 29/09/2024 11:05

@MermaidEyes yes, I noticed that too.

There are certain target topics I think. It’s SO obvious.

The very active Keir Starmer one in AIBU is another one.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 29/09/2024 11:11

And the similar threads here in the run up
the Election never bothered you?

Apolitia · 29/09/2024 11:25

Yes, the similar threads in the run up to the election did bother me. My point is that I don’t like women’s social spaces being invaded by people pretending to walk amongst us when they are paid staffers or journalists culling comments for articles.

OP posts:
CassieMaddox · 29/09/2024 11:32

Yep. And the conspiracy theory posts, like the recurring threads about children identifying as animals. I'm also finding the Islamophobia difficult too. It's all a bit much, I agree.

Agreed. He’d have to work pretty damn hard to get into the same ballpark for mendacity and incompetence.

The one about the wolf is questionable. The school or council has not been identified, there is nothing to prove it's even a true story.

Apolitia · 29/09/2024 11:38

The conspiracy theory ones I think are probably fishing journos. I’ve noticed a few seemingly random issues coming up on here and bingo, a few days later comes a related crapola article in the gutter press.

That’s been going on for a while but am definitely seeing much, much more political propaganda of late.

Ooh, I don’t know, KS has made a pretty strong start on the incompetence front in the first few weeks @IntheVicinity No, I’m not a bot, nor from Tory HQ. I am a shocked and disappointed labour voter, soz.

Guavafish1 · 29/09/2024 11:40

Boris Johnson is trash and complicit to deaths of many during Covid pandemic.

Keir Stramer is weak and lacks a back bone
