To hate autumn already

It's five days into "meteorological autumn" and I'm freezing, I feel like I have a cold and I'm knackered every morning because I wake up in the dark. It's poured with rain everyday for a week and the only decent day this week is freezing.

I get SAD anyway and then top it off with colds and flu already, I'm already over it 🙄

It has suddenly gone very cold, hasn't it?! I was saying to DH yesterday that I'm absolutely frozen. Dug out the hot water bottles this afternoon.

I do like autumn, but ditto on the flu, too. Looking forward to a long weekend off and getting out on some nice walks to shake off the cobwebs a bit! DH says he's baking a savoury pie of some description tonight so that'll cheer me up, too.

meteorological autumn starts on the 1st September but yes it has suddenly got cold and much darker in the morning.

I’ve been in annual leave this week and it’s pissed down every day. Not too cold yet. But yeah definitely darker in the mornings. I’ve been complaining all summer about the birds waking me up at 5.

Freezing!! I've gone from sweating in my raincoat to shivering in my puffer jacket

Ah I saw it was the 22nd, some sort of equinox?

September has been a record breaking wet month in some places. It's normally the most reliable month of the year for weather, usually having many lovely days, but this year it's been rubbish.

@itwasnevermine you mean astronomical rather than meteorological. The astronomical seasons are based on the position of the Earth in relation to the sun, while the meteorological seasons are based more on temperature and so divide the year up into 4 chunks of 3 months each. 22nd September was the autumn equinox; so the point when the sun lines up with the equator to give us equal days and nights. This is the start of astronomical autumn as we’re now moving towards winter and the winter solstice. The autumn chunk of the meteorological year started in the 1st of September. I hope this makes sense and is vaguely interesting, even if autumn is being a bit damp 😊

I am waiting for someone to blame Keir Starmer for this.
