Haven’t been paid

I started a new job 3 weeks ago and was told I would 100% be paid this month on the 27th. All my BACS payments go in at bang on 00:15am with TSB and always have without fail as this is the time TSB put money into accounts but I’ve not yet had anything. What sort of time should I expect to see it? I’m worried now

Officially it can be any time on the 27th. There are a range of variables.

Banking systems glitch regularly. A couple of months ago my well known big high street bank had a system problem on pay day and all the payments went in later that afternoon, rather than the usual midnight.

MartinCrieffsLemon · 27/09/2024 00:23

Why not ask them?
Or wait until 00:15am tomorrow goes through because it might be they set payments up on the 27th to go in (and that is usually instant anyway)?

rayofsunshine86 · 27/09/2024 00:24

Your new job's payroll system might fire a bit later. I'd be concerned if it's not in by 8am.

Lifeisapeach · 27/09/2024 00:27

I receive my BACS payroll around about 5-6am on the 27th. If they say 27th, then it will be in before 9am on that day. The time it clears depends on the sending bank.

Thanks. TSB always process at 00:15am so I’m concerned I’m not getting paid this month even though I was told I would be. I will check again in the morning but I’ll have to ask them if not

It's not the receiving bank that matters, it's the sending one and the payroll system the employer uses.

I'd be concerned if it's not there by midday, but you honestly can't expect your new employer to pay at 00.15 just because your last one did.

Aligirlbear · 27/09/2024 01:00

How do you know they are paying you by Bacs ? Particularly 1st month might be Faster Payment and some businesses always do their salary runs via FP. TSB the receiving bank can only pay you the funds when they have received them - check with your employers how they are paying you.

HappilyContentTheseDays · 27/09/2024 01:16

I'd wait until the morning before you start worrying. All my BACS payments never arrive in my account before 5am on the day. As others have said, it's not the receiving bank, it's the paying bank which sets the time....TSB can't put the money into your account until they receive it.

Katemax82 · 27/09/2024 07:06

My old boss told me pay was sent via fast payments so I wouldn't get a notification of pending payment. I just had to spend all of payday stressing out checking if I'd been paid (useless fucking company)

Jinxyjo · 27/09/2024 07:10

there was issues with TSB and payroll this tuesday where i work, it could be a TSB issue!

NashvilleQueen · 27/09/2024 07:25

My wages go in at midnight (Lloyds) but other payments are sometimes 6am.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 27/09/2024 07:27

There was an issue with TSB and child benefit payments this week.

Yes apparently ,child benefit and DLA payments were also delayed due to issues withTSB.

sweetpickle2 · 27/09/2024 07:33

Do they definitely pay by BACS?

WhatInFreshHell · 27/09/2024 07:35

It does depend on whether it's a BACS payment or a Faster Payment. I use FP to pay my staff, but I'm always aware that they might be waiting for pay day, so I usually process the payments manually around 10pm the night before the official pay day. We don't have a huge number of staff, we're only a small family run business, so processing manual payments doesn't take up much time however the bigger we get, the longer it will take so I will probably move over to BACS as we grow.

Bloops · 27/09/2024 07:41

My payments seem to be around 6am. Have you had yours yet?

Sanch1 · 27/09/2024 07:44

My husbands pay always goes in about 8am, as that's when the accounts lady gets into work and processes the payments. Doesn't matter what bank it is.

Cheekymonkye · 27/09/2024 07:45

Is it a large company?

over my working years I have found that larger companies tend to use bacs and it goes in automatically, but smaller companies have their own methods. I did a year in a nursery who would pay “when she got around to it” on payday ish .
no one else seemed to mind much but it ended up being the main reason I left . I still remember the absolute stress it caused me.
the only day I got it in a reasonable time was the day I said I didn’t have any petrol in the car so might be very late for my shift if we didn’t get our wage in the morning- then happily she found time first thing .

its arsehole-ish

however , in your case, it does sound like maybe everything hasn’t been set up in time . Only way to find out is ask accounts/ payroll

Pandasnacks · 27/09/2024 07:45

Pay might not just pop in automatically, payroll might do it when they get into work. I'd wait until lunch time and ask.

DreamW3aver · 27/09/2024 07:52

You can't expect to be paid aroudn midnight, that's not how banking works and aside from normal processing times there can be one off glitches

Have you got reason to think your employer is lying about making payroll payments?

bifurCAT · 27/09/2024 08:15

Any luck?

Yellowpingu · 27/09/2024 09:05

I do the payroll in an SME, much more S than M and we pay weekly. Usually I set up the payments the day before but it’s not always possible and sometimes I’ll do it on the day. Don’t panic yet.

Shroedy · 27/09/2024 13:58

If you're not being paid for the full month if you only started 3 weeks ago, your pay may need to be more manual this month. So even if going forward it gets deposited as 00:15 (which, as others have said, isn't about your bank) it might not be this month.

Grapefruit99 · 27/09/2024 14:54

Thanks everyone. It went in this morning as a faster payment but going forward it will be BACS
