To think M & S are taking the absolute p... with Dine in

Popped into M & S to buy the usual Dine in £12 for two. Lovely food and a great option that we use regularly.

It's now £15 for what is basically EXACTLY the same thing in slightly different packaging with Tom Kerridge's name on it. That's a 25% price increase. Are you kidding me M & S?? I don't seem to remember inflation suddenly jumping up overnight...

A few years ago it was £10 for 3 courses including a bottle of wine. Then they took the wine away. Then they increased it to £12 but no wine added back in. I felt £12 was a lot but the food quality was good... I just feel this is a complete p-take putting the food in different packaging with a celeb chef name on and thinking we will pay 25% more for the privilege. Well I didn't and I won't.

I presume a chunk of this has been paid to Tom Kerridge for his branding. I'm sorry but I'm not bank rolling your lifestyle.

Am I just being a stingy northerner or have M & S completely effed up one of the best things they did and will find that there is a barrier to how much we will spend on a ready meal we have to cook ourselves and they have just hit it??

Given he charges north of 32 quid for fish amd chips I'm not surprised.

😱😱😱

A M&S single portion curry at Liverpool Street station is now £7.50 and that's without rice. Far better to pay £8.50 and get a takeaway

The non-listed ones, or do you think this shit keeps for days on end without additives and preservatives? Like you expect them to state what antibiotics and medications they give to their M&S livestock? Yeah, right. Interestingly, they say - don't eat it if you have a milk or egg allergy - but this wonderful dish contains neither, right?

Do you remember the issues when co2 was in short supply? It’s used to preserve ready meals, salads, meats etc.

im not sure what bonkers sites you’ve been looking at, the U.K. is incredibly tight on regulations.

Don’t buy it then. 🙂

Is this the food-shopping version of "dOn'T LiKe iT, dOn'T wAtCh iT"? 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

What's happened to Heston Blumenthal's supermarket range? Is it still in Waitrose? Somewhere else? I want an orange in a Christmas pudding.

You’ll be lucky I don’t think they’ve done those for years. The mince pies last year were disgusting.

Stinksmum · 26/09/2024 19:59

I've just gone into the M&S site to order a Christmas dessert and was surprised to find a minimum spend of £50. And that's not for delivery, that's for me to go into store and pick it up. I'm just going to wing it and go see what's in store on the 23rd.

Both things can be true I think. They let creepy men review womens knickers and they have a good range of other stuff.

Personally I think that anyone worried about knickers (or reading reviews about them) needs to get out more.

I think you're the one with the problem there.

No issue for me. Haven’t given them a penny for about 5 years.

O thank you Blossomtoes I'll have to find a new thrill.

I worry about the ethos of a company that knowingly publishes and profits from fetish reviews, personally.

We enjoyed his Xmas pudding last year but we had some kind of lemon thing as well and it was very unmemorable as you can see I literally can’t remember anything about it and I ended up throwing away the uneaten box in feb when it went out of date.

I still enjoy perusing the isles to see what fun and weird concoctions they’ve put together each year.

I've been massively aware of price increases (and when things have been dropped again and by how much etc..) I know £12 or £15 is loads for a meal for two but as a special treat I always thought of it as good value compared to eating out. But to overnight increase the price by 25% not because of increase in cost of ingredients or inflation really pisses me off. They have just repackaged something and then it feels like they have sat in room and wondered how much they can get away with charging...

Of course they have. I work in the industry and that's exactly what we do!

petitfromage · 26/09/2024 20:12

We need to rise up and demand our dine in m and s for tenner returns... the marketing teams will not restrain us

It’s expensive but the menu looks really good. I think I’m their target market though, we used to have a weekly takeaway and are trying to cut that back a bit as they are now very expensive, although we can afford them. A meal for two from that range at £15 seems worth it as long as it’s good quality as it’s half the amount we’d spend on a takeaway.

Barney16 · 26/09/2024 20:22

I bought it today. Which seems extravagant but the starter my partner eats as a lunch, the main we eat usually with veg from the freezer and the side, mashed potato I add to some cheapish sausages. But I have always done that. However it's likely I won't be buying it again. Which is a shame because it's a very nice treat. Edited to say their extra creamy custard creams are only 50p a packet. I bought three.

I'm totally going to try the Tesco one though. Does include wine?

It does we tried one last week, steak, side ( we chose triple cooked chips) and desert (trifles for us ) steaks weren't close to m&s but still edible wine was 12% again not the same quality but for a budget dine in worth the money

100%. They need to stand with JK Rowling and stop putting profit in front of their largest customer: Cis females.

Special changing rooms and special underwear section are what’s needed in the store.

Even Eddie Izzard has come out today and said JKR is not a transphobe.

Cis women and trans women can live alongside each other but one shouldn’t erode the rights of the other and instead of focusing their ire on women they should use it on the likes of M&S to create the new offering they need, likewise the Olympics etc.

BIossomtoes · 26/09/2024 20:37

Only on MN could a thread about meal deals have the trans issue shoehorned into it.

GreatMistakes · 26/09/2024 16:38

£15 for ready meals is obscene.

What might have been a weekly treat will have customers thinking they'd rather get deliveroo of restaurant food once a fortnight instead.

Unfortunately Deliveroo is going to be way more than £15.

He was diagnosed with bipolar and sectioned, after having a breakdown, last year. He did not "go psychotic"

He stopped working with Waitrose a couple of years or so ago. It was a mutual uncoupling, from what I remember.
