Utilities should be forced to allow joint accounts

Bad enough stuck all day on the phone to utility company without the added hassle of getting DH's account details from him as he set up all the accounts when I was busy with a newborn.

How do utility companies get away with not providing a joint account of equals? A bank can do it where one spouse can empty a joint account of thousands of pounds. Where is the awful risk utility companies face that they get away with this? It is headwrecking.

Do you mean utility bills in joint names? All of ours are. Or have I misunderstood? Very frustrating for you though! You have my sympathies.

But they're not though are they, they're Main Account Holder and get your name added?

Our water company have allowed a joint account, but none of the others. Drives me mad!
They used to ring during the day wanting to speak to my DH - I'd say he was at work, I was his wife (SAHM) what was the issue - oh no can't speak to you only the account holder. When can we speak to him - well - after work obviously. Oh no, we can only call during office hours.....
I love online chat on utility websites - much easier to pretend I'm him!

We’re with Octopus - joint bill, either of us can contact about the account. Can’t recall having had a problem with previous supplier either.
