Workmen’s radio

I’m in a terrace. Next door has recently sold. It must have completed last weekend as since then the new owners are doing a complete renovation. (Not sure why, it didn’t need it as it was in great condition) No sign of the actual owners yet, just a stream of work men going in and out.

As well as the banging and scraping of wall and building noise, I can hear their radio really loudly, to the point of annoyance and distraction.

I’m guessing between the hours of 8am-6pm this is fair game, and there is nothing I can do about it. (I say 6pm as I doubt workmen will work later than that…although 10pm in terms of actual latest time)

Lots of councils say no site radios for this exact reason. But it's only guidance AFAIK.

Why don't you just speak to them?

Bantai · 23/09/2024 10:11

Knock on the door and ask for it to be turned down before you report it for nusence.

If they're playing a radio at work they need to pay PRS. Which I bet they don't.
Ask them to turn it down. If they refuse then just contact their boss via the vans/uniform company name. And mention PRS...
The new neighbours will not want to fall out with you over this. It's common courtesy that they listen to neighbours requesting they keep the noise down.

How dare they listen to music while they work?!

I would leave them alone. On a recent rennovation of mine, I told the lovely old neighbour that it would be a bit noisy. She replied "make as much noise as you like". That's the way to do it.

Thanks for the replies. I will go round and speak to them. And also introduce myself if the actual neighbour is there. I was just gauging opinion as to whether this was reasonable, or whether the collective agreement was I should just suck it up.
