To consider getting 1-2-1 badminton coaching?

I play badminton weekly in a group setting, and while the games are competitive, there’s little focus on improving technique. I’m considering getting some 1-2-1 coaching to work on specific skills and refine my game.

However, a friend thinks it’s pointless because the coaching is more expensive than group sessions, and since I’m “not aiming to be an Olympian”, she feels it’s a waste of money and time. I don’t mind the cost and just want to improve for personal satisfaction.

AIBU to think it’s worth investing in coaching even if it’s just for self-improvement?

Yes it's worth it. How dull of your friend to believe that you are only allowed to improve if it's in order to be world class... I have been considering swimming lessons one to one. I enjoy swimming but I'm not very good at it. No technique. I would also like to learn piano. Should I not do this because I won't be playing the Royal Albert Hall?! Do it!

The better you get at something - the more you enjoy it. There's actually a dopamine reward released in the brain - in short I think it's a great ideo OP.

I take individual piano lessons and tennis lessons and love both. Tennis, I began as my little boy wanted to play (he goes to individual and group lessons) and I wanted to play with him.Yes, it's expensive, but I get so much joy out of it. You deserve it.
I've also found that both reduce stress - when I am focusing on a tricky bit of music or on hitting the ball, I can't also be worrying about my job. It really helps me.

Give it a try. You might like it or you might not. You could also try following advice online and doing excersises yourself.
