I know I'm a grown up and I'm responsible for my own finances and purchases but I'm really flailing with this one!! Please help!!

I'm on a tight budget. Max £400. Needs:

  • windows compatible.
  • responsive. I can hear the cogs slowly turning in my old one.
  • well built, not flimsy (I'm clumsy).

Will be used for essay writing, note taking, teams video meetings, emails, Google etc.

Light use and study basically.

I'm not at all technical and I really struggle to be decisive with purchases that have to work well.

Please help. I beg of you!

I can't recommend a specific one, but I would google 'top laptops of 2024' (2023 would also be good, and likely cheaper). The articles usually feature a budget option or two. Then I'd look up the budget options on retailer sites eg. Amazon, Currys, JL, etc. where there's reviews off people who actually bought them. It sounds like you don't have very specific or niche needs, which makes your search easier!

In that price range you're probably looking at an ASUS model of some sort (Zenbook and so on).

Older models of Thinkpads could be in that range. Very sturdy and last for ages.
