To go on holiday whilst close relative is in ICU

I have a holiday of a lifetime booked. Long haul - already cancelled twice due to Covid. Finally doing it next week. I am not someone who goes away regularly so this is a big deal for me.

But this week, one of my nuclear family members has been admitted to ICU. They're in a coma and unlikely to wake up whilst I'm away, but there's always a small chance. There are a couple of other people who can go and visit, but only one is a close family member. Other than that it's friends.

AIBU to go on the holiday for 2 weeks and say I'll come and visit when I'm back?

I feel guilty but also like I'm not really much help whilst here because they're just unconscious and probably will be for the next few weeks :( But equally, they could even die whilst I'm away, and then I might feel terrible.

Please be kind. This is very hard.

I'm not sure I could enjoy the holiday in this situation. I suspect your insurance might cover this and then you could go at another time.
It's a rotten situation though, and I do feel for you having to make the decision.
