I have had a chronic cough since 2017 at least at one point I lost my voice
the doctors only recently gave me salbutamol he won’t give anything else without a chest X ray
previously had spirometry that indicated possible copd but he said the results were variable

I am very worried about my c ray as I’m scared I have lung cancer

I have a chronic cough
sore throat and lump in my throat sometimes
some breathlessness and wheezing
sometimes go dizzy when I cough
and sometimes a whistling from
my throat
I’m also obese

Well to be direct, you would probably be dead now if your chronic cough since 2017 was lung cancer. I am more shocked that GP hasn’t done x ray or tried salbutamol earlier, though appreciate it may have been hard to access GP. There are much more common things than lung cancer though you haven’t given information to evaluate the risk. Hope the x ray goes well for you!

Thank you? Do any of the signs seem like lung cancer? I feel like I could dewl

I had a chest X Ray which then led to a CT scan. I'm a smoker and the respiratory doctor wanted this done. I was scared going in for the results. There were signs of COPD and he has run more tests for asthma.
Honestly once you are in the system (certainly if picked up by a consultant) it's so much better.
They are now targeting treatment and yes I am now trying to give up smoking.

Have you tried taking gaviscon?

MandUs · 20/09/2024 20:40

I also think if it was lung cancer since 2017 you'd be much more ill by now.

How old are you? Quite young for COPD?

ThatMakesSense · 20/09/2024 20:44

My dad died of lung cancer - and it was a lot quicker than 7 yrs! So in all honesty - I doubt it very much in your case.

Well you might have a respiratory diagnosis but I would definitely want them to look at reflux as well.
I have had silent reflux for years which presents as a hideous cough and lost voice if I don't take my PPIs.

I had a barium swallow and they didn’t even find reflux
