To feel a bit off about this?

In a new workplace today as was covering there.

As I went out at lunch, the boss and all the team were in the staffroom and one said 'You look quite a lot like Freya '(A child in the organisation I work for). I can see the resemblance somewhat and so smiled politely.
As I was about to head back out the door, the boss responded with 'Yeah, she does a bit' then I heard my name (Kind of like 'PurpleJammyDodgers...) and sort of growled a few times I couldn't make out what the rest of what he said but its left me feeling uncomfortable and wondering why he did that ? It made me feel embarrassed especially as he even made claw motions. Just wondered what he actually said and don't think it could have been professional?

Are you asking ua what he said and why he said it?

I don't know.

RedHelenB · 18/09/2024 22:12

Just let it go. No point fretting about it.

DaisyChain505 · 18/09/2024 22:15

This post doesn’t really make sense.

PurpleJammyDodgers · 18/09/2024 22:22

Paranoid about why he would say my name, growl and make claws at me, after the comment the other staff member made.
It felt weird and a bit off.

It does sound quite odd! I can't really suggest what he was doing but I agree it's not worth fretting over. It was a silly joke, maybe a reference to a film or comedy sketch. Honestly, I'd rather not know! He made himself look silly, not you.

It sounds a bit "weird and off", but honestly, OP, what are you expecting from this thread? Why would a bunch of internet strangers have the faintest idea what your boss meant?

Is there any way you can actually ask him? Explain that the incident made you a little uncomfortable, and you'd like to be in on the "joke", or whatever the hell it was.

Yeah, I think maybe something like this. My DH sometimes makes me cringe a bit when he jokes with people using cultural references that I'm pretty sure they won't get (due to age, nationality, generally not seeming to be the sort of person who would be into the thing he's referencing). I really wouldn't think anything of it.

SkaneTos · 18/09/2024 22:36

I can't answer, because I'm confused.

The first person said that you and a child look alike?

And the second person said?

oldslippers2024 · 18/09/2024 22:39

Do you look particularly young? Odd thing to say but who knows?

PurpleJammyDodgers · 18/09/2024 22:42

The resemblance to the kid was a bit weird in itself. As she didn't say 'She looks like she could be your daughter ' which would be appropriate but that I just looked like her.
Then the whole growling and claw thing from the boss was beyond weird and made me feel embarrassed and awkward. All I heard him say before that was my name.

I would interpret that as he thinks you're a cougar!

comedycentral · 18/09/2024 23:02

He's probably sat at home wondering why the eff he did that today - let's hope so anyway!

AnneLovesGilbert · 18/09/2024 23:10

Is he Austin Powers?

BleachedJumper · 18/09/2024 23:13

Do you think this is a racism thing?

PurpleJammyDodgers · 19/09/2024 09:01

Both white so no.
