to cut a long story short i smashed th ring doorbell today

mydad has it set up so it works, but it doesn't ring like a doorbell - it just sends a notification to his phone. I didnt know this and had a signed for delivery today but obviously the doorbell didn't work so i missed it and got a card through saying it's going to be returned to sender (it was perishable/time urgent).
in a fit of temper after trying to get through to the courier fruitlessly i smashed the ring and he can't receive/see anything on it and it's cracked, apparently it was his father's so. im terrified of his reaction if he finds out it was me. He's saying he's going to go to the police as vandlism. I can't quite put into workds how scared i am of him finding out what i did!!! if he goes to the police can I turn myself in and get them not to tell him? or should i just not say anything?

Just tell him and replace it.

And get some help with your anger, with all due respect, smashing things in a fit of temper is not the behaviour of a grown adult.

You can go to the police, and they won't tell him if they think that doing so would endanger you.

thunderbanana · 18/09/2024 21:32

He’ll see you smash it on the ring footage?

just replace it 🤷‍♀️

ForgettingMeNot · 18/09/2024 22:07

He should have a chime linked up to it

He's an idiot

Sorry, did posters miss that she’s essentially had an item for surveillance installed by a controlling man and she’s terrified of him?!

Tulipsareredvioletsarebue · 19/09/2024 19:07

Was the doorbell installed by your dad but was his dad's?

If you are so scared to tell anyone, it looks like a horrific situation, I hope you are safe OP!

silverhamster · 19/09/2024 19:09

Just want to understand the situation.....Do you live with your dad? Is it his house and you were home and he didn't see the Ring notification and didn't text you to say someone was at the door?
If so I would just fess up unless you have actual reason to be scared of his reaction.
Can't he see who smashed it from the footage?

Or you live elsewhere and he has put the doorbell on your house and you don't have access to make it ring?

Also....the courier should have knocked. So annoying to miss an important parcel!

DoYouReally · 19/09/2024 19:38

It's a bit unclear. Do you live together or does he monitor you in your own home?

My thoughts too. OP would rather go to the police than to admit to breaking something.

plasticmack · 19/09/2024 19:44

Just to clarify, is this the man you are afraid to admit to your dad?
