To feel like I’m being fobbed off?

I’ve been bloated on and off for a few months now. I was told by the doctor it is likely IBS, after simply looking at my tummy. He gave me IBS tablets.
These weren’t working, and so he gave me medication for possible diverticulitis.

This isn’t working and if anything, the problem is getting worse, I am getting more and more bloated. I don’t feel gassy, I feel swollen. I have attached a picture of my belly this morning (sorry!) and it just doesn’t seem normal at all.
Bearing in mind, I usually have a toned flat stomach….

I have even been gluten free for a few weeks. There’s no pattern to it - I could eat nothing and still wake up like this. It never stops either - it’s constantly there. It gets worse even after drinking water.

I tried to call my GP today and he refused to see me for an appointment, said to wait for my colonoscopy and to keep taking ibs tablets as he’s certain that’s what it is.

I’m being refused an appointment and I really don’t think it’s IBS…

(ps I’m definitely not pregnant!)

Have you any pain with it?

nohobbyhobbit · 17/09/2024 12:20

Yes a dull pain

It certainly could be IBS. The colonoscopy sounds like the best option to get a surer diagnosis. Do you know how long you have to wait for the colonoscopy?

It almost certainly isn't cancer but they should really rule it out first bfore deciding it's just IBS, if you have any of these other symptoms.

I was bloated and having IBS symptoms, plus was in a lot of pain during my period and would get badly constipated. Turned out I had endometriosis and an ovarian cyst but they treated it very seriously in case it was cancer.

GP should check it out with a blood test and get you booked in for a CT scan.

Just not sure where to go next, they’re refusing to see me. My colonoscopy is in 5 weeks but it’s only getting worse and worse every day
