You can only use two of those eggs, you know?

Diclaimer: Not sure where to place this

A bizarre conversation with my eldest daughter led to some strange unveilings 🤔 long story short, my BIl who considers himself a staunch environmentalist overheard our convo and chipped in with his words of wisdom: "you may be born with eggs and thats all well and good. But you do know you can only use two of them". As in two eggs = two children (if that's how it pans out, and all that 🙄)

I'm laughing but also fuming 😤

Is this what adults are saying/dictating to our young now?

I would be tempted to tell BIL to FO and mind his own business.

Also, in the context he meant it he ought to have said "should" not "can".

Anyway, I thought the worry at the moment was a declining birth rate.

nicknot · 16/09/2024 22:12

He wasn't dictating and you know 'adults' are not doing this to the younger generation. He was being a prick, probably thought her was funny whilst getting his piece in for environmental issues.

x2boys · 16/09/2024 22:23

Well obviously it's just his opnion,I don't see massive groups of adults telling children this
He's right in a way though most people only have 1 or 2 children.

Trust me, I was tempted. I was reluctant to share this as it is an insensitive comment.

My rationale for doing so is: exposing what I see as the other side of the coin - utlimately stifling womens reproductive freedom to choose to have more than two children. A discussion on periods and how it was derailed by some frantic preaching session on how girls must think seriously about controlling their fertility. I haven't covered everything said as it was all a little too much and I'm still processing.

Firstly, any logical thinking adult knows that fertility is not black and white and to make such a so-called "statement" to a young girl is frankly out of order.

What a weird take on it.
No, he’s just a bit thick 😳

I got ahead of myself. Clearly I mean, *some adults. A long rant about how women shouldn't be having more than two children (insensitive for a myriad of reasons). But I do find an increasing number of hard-core environmentalists "dictating" womens fertility. That's the bottom line.

Sounds like he just thought he was being funny.

I think it's sending a negative message about having 2 kids though, increasing numbers of women don't want any. Daughters should be free to decide.

Holidayhell22 · 16/09/2024 23:10

I hope he doesn’t have any children and has had the snip to make sure he never does.
Otherwise he is a bloody hypocrite.
If he feels that strongly about it then he really, really should not be reproducing.

My ovaries, my business with the optional "you twat" on the end

'Women shouldn't...'. Because, of course, men are nothing to do with baby making when it comes to being judgemental 🙄
Tell the sexist prick how creepy it is to be talking about your daughter's reproductive organs and what she choses to do with them.

Every bloody time, environmentalist or oilman. Girls must control their fertility so men don't have to control theirs? Fuck that 😡

This made me vote YABU because it's such a ridiculous question.

One weirdo said it to 'your young', that's all 😳

Yes this.

If he really cared about over-population why doesn't he put his own head in the oven and make the ultimate sacrifice for the cause?

He just sounds like another dull Middle-age man policing a woman's choices
