To wonder if a regular eating pattern is key to health?

I have IBS so have been thinking about food recently, I have also read a few threads on here, after having gained a couple of unwanted lbs.

I was wondering if I had upped my calories, booze, etc, trying to work out how I might have gained, but then it struck me. Throughout my life, both my weight and my IBS have been great when I have a very regular pattern. So not so much 'what' I eat, but how, and when.

I notice also that when I am at my comfortable weight, I still enjoy a bit of wine, and eat the same foods as I do now, and this is why I can get confused as to why I have gained.
I will think 'I've not changed anything! How can this be!?'

But what's really happening is that I have altered my 'pattern'. I saw a few threads where people who never experienced weight issues tended to eat whatever they wanted, but did keep a routine. When I slip into a pattern or routine where I eat a similar thing weekly, my weight drops down. God knows why, but there we are. I think it's interesting nonetheless!

This is fascinating to me because of my IBS. The idea that I could potentially find ease by keeping mindful of my routine is more important to me than body weight. I am not overweight but have definitely gained a few lbs since my eating pattern has wobbled around recently. It is interesting that my IBS is worse when this happens.
