To think rugs on carpet never look good?

Please convince me otherwise.

I bought a large rug specifically for under the bed - large enough that it stretches beyond the bedside tables etc. the bedroom is carpeted and I’m sad that it looks ridiculous.

The rug has now been removed to another room that has wooden flooring.

Did it look that bad? Did make the room look smaller? I’m thinking of doing the same in our bedroom - please tell me if I should or should not do this. Going to get a plain rug as close in colour to the actual carpet

We did it in our living room after much discussion. Was designed by an interior designer, and we queried it but the contrast of colour and texture adds warmth to the room. Key is that the furniture sits on it. Only occasional issue is that we periodically need to realign it if it moves out of position.

Depends, we have a rug 0n carpet in the smaller living room and it looks really nice. It’s a cream background one on a cream carpet though

Would you ever show a photo? Just of the floor and rug (as much as I’d love to see the entire room 🥰)

Depends on the rug and the room, surely?

Medee · 14/09/2024 13:27

Not the best picture but needed to crop out as much identifiers as I could!

I think if the carpet is very short then a fluffier rug could look ok - we have this in our spare room at the moment, sort of coming out from under the bed. It adds a bit of texture.
But I do know what you mean generally about rugs in carpet. I wouldn’t have a rug in my living room where the carpet is slightly longer. I don’t know the terms for the length or thickness of carpets, but I’m sure you know what I mean!

Martymcfly24 · 14/09/2024 13:54

Not sure why you would have both but I wouldn't really like it. Think it looks overly fussy

New2thisshizzle · 14/09/2024 13:59

Depends on proportions of room and rug/carpet. Can look good

poppyzbrite4 · 14/09/2024 13:59

I have a large rug on the carpet in my sitting room and it looks fabulous.

dudsville · 14/09/2024 14:10

I was going to agree. I think a rug on carpet is redundant. However, I do have a runner going under the headboard and bedside tables in the spare bedroom. I did this to hide a carpet issue as I don't want to replace the whole carpet, but I'm surprised how nice it looks.

Skyrainlight · 14/09/2024 14:13

I don't like rugs on carpets, I think they look odd, but I think it's very much personal preference.

spikeandbuffy · 14/09/2024 14:39

Has to screenshot but I love my rug

I don’t like rugs on carpets either. It just doesn’t look good or right, it’s a bit old fashioned. Rugs go on hard floors only in my opinion.

Lorrymum · 14/09/2024 14:43

I have a rug on my lounge carpet to cover a couple of unremovable stains! To replace the carpet would cost me a small fortune which I can't afford at the moment.

We've got a newish build (not my choice, moved in with DP) and it has come with grey or cream carpets, not the best quality and I don't like the grey particularly. I wouldn't want to change them while they've got a lot of use left in amd are totally functional so we've got some old/ sheepskin rugs for texture and interest. Similarly rentals. Suppose it's making the best of what's there, the floor is a big space

Namechangeforcheese · 14/09/2024 14:54

I'm planning in doing this in our bedroom. The carpet has a stain on it from a leaking skylight but is otherwise in good condition. The carpet is a pale slate blue colour and I plan to get a big ornate blue/gold/red Turkish rug that will cover the area between the wall and the foot of the bed.

HolyMoly24 · 14/09/2024 18:11

I actually like rug on carpet if it's a different texture. I think it makes a room look more cosy
