Work in local government middle manager level. Last year got promoted to a temporary contract in a different department with a specific objective. I achieved specific objective and was praised at v high level. Now told that I will be expected to return to old role next month as funding has run out, even though the temporary contract said three months notice. There is other lots of other high profile work I have been doing that I will have to hand over to someone else. Old department is toxic and I am dreading returning. Other than applying for other roles (which I am already doing) is there anything I can do? Can they effectively demote me so easily at such short notice when I have been successful in my senior role? Am I eligible for redeployee status even though I have a job? I don’t think there is anything I can do, but it just feels really unfair.
