To be annoyed at boyfriends comment?

We haven’t been together very long, maybe 5/6 months. This morning we both had later starts so we were getting ready and having a tea together when he said “you looked so much like my ex girlfriend when you’re sleeping and I’ve just woke up, I have to think for a second who it is”

Surely this is something you’d just keep to yourself? It made me feel weird.

For reference I don’t know much about her, they’ve been broken up for 2 years, no kids together, I have no clue what she looks like.

Well you must look similar to her. That in itself is not necessarily a problem. The fact that he said what he said could be.

It sounds as though you are interchangeable with any woman that looks like you and his ex. That he doesn't see you as a person, just a body. That he goes for a physical type and that's all that matters.

People often choose a certain type of person, so that part isn’t unreasonable but mentioning it to you definitely is 🤦🏻‍♀️

Fine to think it, no need to say it. I would have asked him what he would like you to do with that particular piece of information.

Hmmm as others have said, perhaps this is something he shouldn't have said out loud. I would be annoyed by a comment like this. At the same time, if it's the only thing he's said/done it's not a huge deal I suppose...sometimes people are just idiots, we all make mistakes. Maybe just mentally log it as a small red flag.

I would speak to him about it...not in a "that was dumb thing to say" accusatory way, but a 'trying to understand' way. Ask him why he said it, what reaction he would expect to it, how he would feel if you compared him to an ex, and explain to him how it made you feel a bit weird. If he's understanding/apologetic, move on and let it go, if he's defensive or says more weird stuff about his ex...upgrade that small red flag to a big one.
