Worrying about cancer

TW: Appendix, Cancer.

I’m worried about cancer of the appendix, I had appendicitis and they removed my appendix yesterday. They don’t a CT of my abdomen to diagnose and then they cut it out.

I’ve since googled what could cause appendicitis and it mentions cancer of the appendix.

Would they have noticed this via CT or surgery? Or is it an agonising biopsy wait 😞 they sent me home the same day

Am I unnecessary? With the worrying to the extreme? Surely they would have said

Bog standard appendicitis is very very common. It usually happens for absolutely no good bloody reason (& if you're my middle son it happens in the height of the pandemic & you risk dying 🤦), gets whipped out as a complete organ or scraped from your abdomen then you hear nothing more about it.

Cancer of the appendix is fantastically rare. Like, 0.4% of all bowel cancers. Like, rare rare :)

Do you suffer with health anxiety?
If yes, then you should stop seeking reassurance and learn distress tolerance skills. Seeking and receiving multiple reassurances will send you into a never-ending spiral of temporary relief followed by increase in anxiety forcing you to seek further reassurance. And so on it goes.
