Poorly for 3 weeks… AIBU to ask MN what you think it could be?

3 weeks ago I started with a sore throat and a really dry cough, I could cough to the point of nearly being sick. Sore throat lasted two days but cough was pretty constant all day. This cough became more and more productive by the day. No other symptoms of any other illness and plenty of energy.

As of last Friday (10 days or so after) I woke up with a blocked nose and have had particularly bad cold symptoms ever since. Still coughing, very very congested but again, feeling absolutely fine in myself. Until today that is. I now feel like I’ve got the flu and this utter exhaustion/lethargy has come on only this morning, 3 weeks after starting with a cough.

I tested for COVID at the time, and one week after, and both were negative.

I am very rarely unwell so it’s not like me. I’m also 31 weeks pregnant so don’t know how much of the exhaustion is pregnancy related. I don’t want to waste the GP’s time and go for what might just be a cold.

What do you think- two separate illnesses or the same thing? I really don’t feel up to work the rest of the week but I think work will think I am making excuses as I was coughing 3 weeks ago, so surely I would be better by now?!

Hmm.. I have it too, whatever it is

There's some horrible viruses going around, your immune system is down regulated as pregnant. I'd call the GP, can't hurt to get them to hear your chest and give some advice as pregnant

Its covid or flu

kisaki333 · 11/09/2024 17:40

I don't know what it is, but i got this since mid-June! Lasted until about end of Aug. Now it's bloody back!
I've had a round of antibiotics from the gp when the flu-like symptoms hit. I hot better-ish, but I'm not sure if it was the antibiotics .

I am so fed up, pretty much destroyed my whole summer. Nobody in the house had it like this, just me. My husband and dd were ill for a couple of days then got better.

Whooping cough?

Rory17384949 · 11/09/2024 18:12

RSV or flu?
I would try and see the GP seeing as you're pregnant, better to be on the safe side

colouringindoors · 11/09/2024 18:19

Sounds like me - tested positive for Covid yesterday. But could also be RSV or whooping cough (the 100 day cough bug people have been talking about).

I'd get checked over by GP though given duration and pregnancy 💐

I’ve just had whooping cough and been ill for 3 months with similar symptoms, however it’s a very distinctive cough and you’d probably know if you had it.
