Northwich- is it nice?

Dh is a pilot. He has the option to fly out of a number of UK bases. Dh is pushing for Edinburgh whilst Manchester is a bit more practical from an extended family perspective.

I like houses that are not on top off of eachother so always favour house somewhat over location. As long as there is a nice town relatively close by.

I love Knutsford but would prefer to live a little bit further out where we get more for our money but can still access the village somewhat easily.

Ive been thinking about Hartford or similar. Is anyone familiar with the area?

We have 2 dogs and a 6 month old. Dh has stated he would like to work in the Middle East in a few years so schooling is less of a concern.

Thanks

We will be going up and having a look but just curious whether it is worth the effort or not

Hartford is kind of on the wrong side of Northwich for Knutsford. I would suggest you look at villages like Pickmere, Antrobus, maybe Great Budworth perhaps. You'd be close to Northwich for general shopping but also to Knutsford for better restaurants, boutiques, etc.

Hartford is lovely (lived there for 8 years) but lots of traffic due to so many schools and imo house prices are high for the area. However, not a bad drive to Knutsford down the a556 - 20 mins if traffic ok.

I personally love Northwich but I'm biased as a life long resident! I live in Winnington now which I think is also pretty nice, and good value for money houses (we were priced out of Hartford when we needed more space).

We have great community spirit (check out the Pina Colada festival!!), and I think a great range of amenities for the size of town.

Yes, there are sections of the high street which are run down, but that's just a sign of the times, and there are plenty of bits of town that are thriving.

The main thing lacking imo is a wide range of restaurants and takeaways.

Hahaaa, this thread takes me back… I went to St Nicks school! Is it still a decent school or has it gone down the drain as well? 😄

We lived in Davenham (10years) - lovely little village just outside of Northwich. We loved it and schools are really good. My family always say they’d love to live back there but Cheshires green for a reason and I like being warm and dry on the South Coast 😂

The restaurants in Knutsford aren't great in my opinion. Lots of chains and generally very mediocre in quality.

I have such fond memories. They were strict, and dished out discipline like it was going out of fashion, but I ended up with 13 GCSEs so it must’ve served me well 😅 hope your daughter enjoys the school!

St Nicks is still a great school. I have friends with kids that go to several local school and St Nicks is by far the favourite from an all round education.

Hartford is a lovely village other than the traffic. Northwich is not wonderful but many towns have suffered - the Artisan Market and all the events are great though. Well worth a visit.

Lots of bars and places to eat all around the area.

Near to Delamere Forest for walks and trains to Chester or Manchester. Frodsham is a short drive away as is Knutsford.
